Atleast this time, be bold & start collecting min agriculture tax (may be 5% on income above Rs 3Lacs pa.)from1st Apr2011.Its high time the begining should be done & tax collected from rich farmers.
For rest the tax structure should be simple as given below.
upto Rs 5Lpa -no tax
Above Rs 5Lpa -Rs10Lpa -10% tax
Above Rs 10Lpa - 20%tax.

Sir ,pl make life simple for the citizens of India.

I am sure he wont be the next FM again if he does that..
Id1ot .. don't compare agriculture with other profession. Where do you thing the groceries you consume come from?.. Super markets...???
Already many ppl are leaving this profession which had resulted in huge price rise in vegetables.. Taxing the agriculture income will even further discourage this profession..

When megastars like Amitabh Bachhan are vying for 'AGRICULTURIST' tag, do you think that anybody is discouraged from taking up this profession?
It is the poor landless farmers who are quitting.
And they will never come in the income tax bracket.
What Mahesh Shanbag is asking for is to bring the rich and super rich farmers into the income tax loop.
Check out the facts Moderator.
There are more CROREPATI farmers in Haryana than some Tier 1 cities in India.
That's why luxury car makes like Merc, BMW, etc. have lined up in Punjab / Haryana to woo these free-from-tax tycoon farmers.

Gross Inequality
by Mumbai Indian on Feb 02, 2011 02:57 PM

If insignificant few percentage of our population pays Income Tax, why continue with it? Why should the salaried person who gets 100% white income, that too after deduction of TDS, alone bear the weight?

If there needs to be equality, why is agricultural income not taxable? If the farmer is earning less that 160000 per year, he will anyways go tax free, so why spare the big land owners?

Why is the conveyance allowance for salaried limited to 800 per month? And at the same time others allowed higher conveyance as business expenses?

I am an ex-employee who has started on my own. But see this as gross inequality.

Tax exemption
by Aravinda Rao on Feb 02, 2011 02:06 PM

Suggestions: A certain amount of short term capital gains say 1 lakh ariisng out of shares sold should also be exempt. This will help the small investors. Similarly Tax on interest earned from Fixed deposits for salaried and senior citizens/pensioners should be totally removed. This will ensure investor interest as well as eliminate the need for senior citizens to fill all that Form 15...

Tax missioneries, madarsaas, temples, churches etc
by System Admin on Feb 02, 2011 02:01 PM

Govt should tax missioneries, madarsaas, temples, churches etc excluding the money they are spending on free food/ free travel/ free accomodation to devoties.
This will result in spending large amount of money on food/ accomodation/ travel by such missioneries, madarsaas, temples, churches etc to save tax and will benifi the common people leaving at least in that city

Direct Tax is Lame
by Stop Nonsense on Feb 02, 2011 01:50 PM  | Hide replies

There should be no direct tax in a country like India and there should be no indirect tax on food products either. This will be best way to kill black money.

to kill the black money, govt should discard Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. at the same time govt should make it compulsari to the marchants to make card payments above the bill amount of Rs 500 otherwiase they should be imposed of heavy fine on such cash bills.
For higher amount bills like Rs 10K or more, the merchants should ask for either card/ DD or cheque payment and no cash payment should be allowed

Gove should simplify the structure
by System Admin on Feb 02, 2011 01:45 PM

Govt should exempt tax to all with anual income upto 10 Lakhs.
At the same time gove should stop tax exemption on convenance/ medical bills/ home lone on 2nd home/ dividends of shares/ mutual funds/ food coupons.
Govt should give 100% tax benifit to companies that will provide free food and free transport to their employees. This will result in increasing shared/ public transport and alos the employees/ workers will get good quality of food in office.

In an age where a dozen bananas now cost 40 rs dozen....
by Vikas Bhatt on Feb 02, 2011 01:44 PM  | Hide replies

...where even the most common fruit that was sold at Rs 10 a dozen a couple of years back is expensive and costing 400% more, after all the loot of our hard earned money by this corrupt Govt. does a grace of 5000 per month out of taxation help a common man beat inflation? When will India's middle class revolt and follow their counterparts in Tunisia and Egypt?
