in india thousand dollars or rs 45000 can meet adequately the needs of a small family in a city.while in the us both husband and wife have to work to make ends meet.also it depends on an individuals desires of his lifestyle.some might be satisfied in a small domicile while others may desire a mansion.it all depends on peoples wants.

by Hamlet ThePrinceOfDenmark on Apr 29, 2011 09:57 PM

all crap! and this is not how the economies are compared, compare them in their local currencies, or net value of the currency. US dollar is manipulated and skewed high up, where is the correction of that bias in data. Rediff restrain yourself within gossips, that's the best you guys know.

Indians have no confidence in their own country
by Rajendra Nayak on Apr 29, 2011 09:56 PM

Indians do not have confidence in their own country or else 1 trillion dollars would not have been sent out. If there was confidence as the ruling front talks about, why Indian money is not invested by Indians in India? But this does not happen in China. US is a different issue but American investors in other countries are proud of being an American and take back the invested money as dollars to US.

by XianYe on Apr 29, 2011 07:32 PM  | Hide replies

Over hype
by sam on Apr 29, 2011 07:28 PM  | Hide replies

I am not able to understand what's the hype about. Does it make any sense if China or India exceeds the total GDP or US or for a matter of fact of any developed country. Will the absolute value will have impact on quality of lives of people in these countries? Still the per capita income is near 2000 USD in China and just over 1000 USD in India, which is about 20 times less than US and many times compared to other developed countries.
Indian media is crazy they are just satisfying ego of people. Suppose Indias economy is largest in absolute terms yet our per capita income is just 1000 USD we will be no where near US quality of life even in comming hundered year even if US keeps crewing itself.

well then why is one in seven inthe soup line in the us.economy is not so simple as to what is the gdp or per capita income.it is whether the needs of each citizen is being met adequately whether the per capita income is 1000 or 20000.

Goverment Type mean anything if people's life is not improved ??
by you patel on Apr 29, 2011 06:20 PM  | Hide replies

I see people are proud of Democracy, Freedom and look down at dictatorships, militia groups ....I have no problem with one's opinions, but for me those things are just names. I don't care what type of government a country has as long as it can bring better living standard to its people. Please look at subtance but not names

Agreed! Indian democracy is for namesake. People don't know how to use it. So we are neither being truly represented in a democratic way nor getting the benefits of a Chinese style govt. In other words, getting shafted on both ends.
