what a stupid article on petrol price. i don't know what a formula used for comparision for this price. we are paying more then 52% texes on petrol and other petro product.after that it is not surity that when petro product will increse again. if you are compare petrol price with europian countries then compare per capital income of those countries after that you will get a fine picture.

Why are we bragging about resurces we don't have
by readiff mod on Apr 17, 2011 10:16 AM

Cost in getting refining and giving to the consumer with govt eating all the taxes money, it difficult to price at lower level. We need a US policy on OIL or a china policy.US policy is to create trouble and attack a country with oil. China's policy is to just buy out the poor countries oil resources. We have sold our own oil fields to cairn etc which made 9.6 billion profit, then how will we get cheaper petrol. We are incapable of getting the resource at a cheaper cost then we should expect to pay less.

Useless article
by Rajesh Ratan on Apr 17, 2011 01:15 AM  | Hide replies

India is the most expensive country. In US a begger can eat in Macdonalds. In India beggar cannot dream of eating in Macdonalds or any normal standard restaurand. This explains value of money and whether it is costly of cheap. You cannot use Rs value to depict costliness. Value of currency within a country depicts costliness and cheapness. The author is ignorant or brainwashed by media and may be education in India.

Eg. You can buy a lot in 1 $ ,you can hardly buy anything with even 10 rs.

USA is more expensive than India. We are NRI's living outside India and know the facts very well. Living in India was much cheaper and simpler even though taxes were high (still not as high as in USA). As for Macdonalds, plese visit MaC next to Delhi Bus terminal, where a berger is cheaper than a rice- daal plate available in nearest restaurants thr.

If the Govt. is sincere..
by Aditya Venkat on Apr 14, 2011 12:07 PM  | Hide replies

The scandanavian countries can afford to price their oil so high because the tax payers can depend on clean, comfortable public transport system. India should remove all subsidies, let those who cannot afford these high fuel charges not buy a car, but before this is done, the government must start investing in a public transport system, buses, trams, rails etc where the common man can sit and travel in air conditioned comfort and reach his destination without looking like a wreck. Moreoover its time the subsidies on gas cylinders and diesel was removed. The policy should be, if u cant afford, do without it. Its not the governments prerogative to take care of your family. If you have many kids, its your problem. If you cant afford to take care of your family dont have one !! Poverty is huge business in India.

It is time the idling Army is put to use..
by jaggu on Apr 13, 2011 01:31 PM  | Hide replies

There are enough countries that have petrol below Rs.10 pL , as low as Rs. 0.77/ Ltr. It is also clear that our govt won't get to cheat the public & divert funds if we own the oil wells.

It is time that our idling Army was used gainfully to acquire important oil assets before china beats us to it.

1. How do you propose that 'our idling army' should be used to 'acquire' important oil assets ?

2. China has long since beat us all ends up to most oil assets that were on offer in central asia and in Africa !

What exactly do you think Armies did all these 5000 years of human existence - play Tambola & Polo? How are we to eliminate poverty of our starving millions?
