Why Petrol is not DERUGLATED from TAX
by Q x on Jun 28, 2010 02:38 PM  | Hide replies

Government is never in loss. Look at the figures at the tax collected from sale of petrol --- which could run in lakhs of crores.

simple calculation - if the Oil companies absorb Re.1.00 for each litre of petrol the run into loss of thousands of crores. Hence calculate how much the gov earns by selling 1 litre of petrol multiplied by the litres of petrol sold.

Best would be the bring the Petrol prices to the international retail price by removing all the taxes on it.

There is no subsidization of fuel. How come fuel is cheaper in USA than india?.
It is mostly a means of transfering money from center to state govts. State govts have no business putting sales tax on fuel. It is a precious and limited resource, whose consumption needs to be encouraged.
The development ranking is led by heavy consumers. We have to consume fuel to get developed [ before it runs out]. Stupid govt policies of taxes on fuel are leaving us stunted ..

the real reason
by pinky on Jun 28, 2010 02:33 PM

the fact is that petro pricing came out of govt control is due to Deora,Sonias fund raiser and family friend of ambanis.govt petro companies due to inefficiencies produce sellable oil at Rs 2/- per litre more than reliance and price will be fixed by these companies where Rs 2 will be added in cost on account of inefficiency and pricing will be dictated by these govt companies since their market share will be more than 90% and reliance/essar will follow them and will pocket windfall profit of Rs 2.all policies in india are dictated by ambani like persons.let common man go to dogs

Raising Fuel and ALL Prices is world's most natural thing
by Argumentative Indian on Jun 28, 2010 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

It is the birth right of the UPA suitably aided by sychophants in the media, like the misery that hath penned the one sided sugar coat above, without the moral rectitude to talk about the killing the miserable government is making through taxes on imported fuel.

I challenge this government to COMPLETELY DE - REGULARIZE ALL HYDROCARBON FUELS IN INDIA, REMOVE ALL THEIR BULLS...T TAXES ON THEM AND ALLOW ANY MNC THAT WANTS TO RETAIL FUEL, LPG ETC. ETC. IN INDIA to do so.

If the monopoly of these white elephant cum turkeys are ever challenged then we'll see the real colors of these virulent de - regulators.

Yes, you are correct, they should be Jai Ho. After so many years some govt has shown guts to call spade a spade. Subsidy has never helped the tax paying citizens but to those who do not pay them. Why should I bear the burden of that.

The act was bought by NDA but the ironman had a melt down exposing his plasticity for vote bank and backtracked.

Inflation is my worry also but paying actual price for what I use is not.

What subsidies and tax paying citizen are you talking about?

Are you talking about the 40% taxes that the government of India will CONTINUE to levy on Fuels? What is all this bullshit about subsidy? What is the subsidy? Who is enjoying this?

Let all subsidies be removed from Fertilizers, Fuels & Cooking Fuels BUT ALSO REMOVE TAXES THAT ARE FEATHERING THE NESTS OF INCOMPETENT NINCOMPOOPS that now desire a basic salary of Rs. 80,001 per month.

I challenge any government to implement this, they are just a bunch of looters, BJP loots under the garb of Hinduism, Congress under the garb of Secularism and CPM under the garb of Communism.

Yes, no party is devoid of corruption. To run a country the govt needs money and this money comes from taxes. Now how many people pay taxes. When teh tax income will start increasing then only such indirect taxes will come down.
As of corruptiona nd white elephant many of thyem indeed are and many of them are not. Oil companies may be mammoth but they aire not white elephants cause I have worked with them. they work as hard as private companies.

When income tax starts increasing ....

So incompetent nincompoops like the Railway Minister, Argiculturre Minister, Chemicals & Fertilizers, External Affairs, Communication Minister, will continue to cost the exchequer 100s of crores together, and the only solution is to raise taxes!!!

Oil company employees work as hard as private companies, I have one simple question, today every global automaker, consumer goods player, mobile phone handset maker, computer manufacturer is in India, why ARE THERE NO MNCS in petroleum in India? Why is this sector so protected if it is all that efficient.

Anyway, it is clear from you post, that you are one of 'THEM' those that benefit from the GOI and it is not fruitful to debate with you as you will go on justifying our government's profligacy.

There is no end to this price rise. Since the last 5 yrs fuel prices shot up 3 times a yr. It is upto us to reduce our consumption. Also there must be proper initiative by the Govt. to seek for alternative energy and encourage us to use it. We r a land where there is plenty of sun, hills and river. We must gather energy from them on a war footing basis but all these has to be done by the government who is busy shouting and wasting time in the parliament. While the world is introducing battery powered cars our country is oblivioius to this fact. Govt. must also subsidise battery powered cars like USA and Europe in order to encourage buyers and sellers to introduce more of battery run vehicles.

Panja, the government will never do what you are saying, because that will reduce the consumption of imported fuels, the governments great income on taxes on these imported fuels AND also render irrelevant our white Elephant oil & gas companies.

Our government does NOT want us to :

1) Use electric powered vehicles
2) Public transport
3) Solar Power

Nothing is done to promote these, whatever good is happening in our country is regardless of the government rather than due to it, except in the HRD & environment ministries where we have educated ministers, who can be sacrficed any time, unlike the super competent Railway, Argiculture or Communication ministers who are invincible.

Why Govt is giving subsidy on Fertilizers??
by amit saxena on Jun 28, 2010 01:41 PM  | Hide replies

Fertilizers are making our land barren and chemicals are poisoning our food. Union carbide was making fertilizers and same chemicals used in fertilizers killed so many innocent people in Bhopal.
The subsidy given by govt is going in the pocket of fertilizer company. Why govt is not planning to promote organic cultivation. Farmers who are doing organic farming must be given subsidy which is not given to fertilizer company.
Oil companies are govt owned so the govt is not seeing any commission in that thats why it has reduced the subsidy.

Ok, Amit how do you subsidize the farmers, when you do not know who the real farmer is. Maximum people who are aware of agriculture practices, know that responsibility of farming is given to some other peoples and is not being done by those who own the land. so there is no actual data on the farmer. It is easier to give money to companies, so that they do not go into losses and the farmers get the fertilizers at reduced rates as compared to International market.

I'm glad you gave the example of farmers, and obviously you know what you are talking about, excellent.

Now, what percentage of Urea consumed in India is imported? 30%. So we are subsidizing foreign highly profitable MNCs for 30% of Urea we consume!!! In 63 years of independence we have not been able to become self sufficient in Urea, a mature technology with consultants a dime a dozen globally!!!!!

You know why, or more pertinently, you already probably know, would you like the COMMON MAN the Mango Man to know why? BEcause till about a year ago, the miserable parasites, OOPs, govt. control was so tight, that it was impossibel for private players to make Urea in India, with the lifting of governmebnt barricades to growth of ordinary Indians in Urea, a host of companies are getting into the act even as we debate on rediffs message boards.
