There are two views...some people think any sorts of bio fuel could p[otentially lead to inflation directly or indirectly. Apart from high sugar price, the farmers would then start ploughing sugarcanes left right and center abandoning other food-grains. The food security would be jeopardised.
However the other view is the people who are objecting cleaner bio-fuel are actually oil lobbyists. They want oil at 200$/barrel to maximize profit and would try to come in the way of alternative fuel as much as they can.
that crook is back to his ways again, the moment ethanol blending is allowed sugar prices will through the roof and the biggest beneficiery will be sharad pawar.
If someone thinks ethanol blending will bring down the prices of fuel, come out of day dreaming, thats not happening..... so effectively you will have only expensive sugar without any benefits

Etanol is extracted from sugarcane waste, so it is not related to price of sugar

India spends $70 billion on oil. You are not happy if $7billion goes to Indian farmers?. You are only worry is about what price you get fuel!!

Raj, stop smoking all the weed / ethanol. 7 Billion dollars will go to which farmer, Shri Sharad Pawar or Shri Shri Amitabh Bacchan?
WIth the Dollar & Euro prices of food in India (US $ 2 per Kg of Tur Dal), how many dal farmers of India have got even 10% higher income?
Why do more farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha, than possibly the entire number of suicides in India DAILY?
Finally, how much are YOU getting paid to mislead the populace, or at least to try to mislead the populace?
US and some south American countries are pushing ethanol since they have more than enough grain production. They can convert some of their grains to ethanol to reduce their oil imports, and also reduce the supply the grain supply in the world market, and push the grain export price to higher. They have double gains.
For India, 2008-2009 year, India only produced less than 220 million tons of grains, that's the food for 1.2 billion population. Much less than the basic demand of about 400 million tons.
Maybe in the future, better tech is available to convert grass or wood to ethanol.
IF ETHANOL IS USED AS FUEL THEN MILLIONS OF FELLOW (FARMER)INDIANS WILL BECOME RICH..WHO WANTS IT..INDIA IS SATISFIED ONLY IF CERTAIN COMMUNITIES BECOME RICH EVEN IF IT MEANS MILLIONS SUFFER..WE ALL KNOW ETHANOL IS INDIA'S ANSWER TO OIL..BUT WHO WANTS THE NATION TO PROSPER..WE WANT ONLY CERTAIN PEOPLE TO PROSPER WHILE OTHER LIVE ON DOLES..SHAMEFUL WAY THE NATION RUNS..
