Imagine a 5 member jury union cabinet (many of them not may be even educated in Bharat; they may be referring to their country as INDIA i.e. BHARAT) deciding the symbol for Rupee, while there is no participation in selection process of people of BHARAT i.e.INDIA !

Not fair, buddy! This was a contest and was open for all. It is not one guy adjudging the final symbol either, it is a panel. Look at the emotion behind the symbol. Let us sit back and take pride that for once, at least, our politicians have done something good. Personally I like th symbol.

I agree absolutely. I know we all love to criticize, but for just this once, lets applaud the Govt for having pulled this to a logical end.

Yes. Every state has its own language, But India has a national language which is Hindi and Indian rupee is not of different design in every state it is the same in every state.

Why not just put the "Om" symbol... it is written in the same way in most Indian languages... I donno maybe all...Everyone recognizes it, everyone can write it and it does not concentrate on the letter "R"... LOL
But yeah it does give it the religious differentiation thing...
But see the point is not to divide each state based on language differentiation but to unite the country as one and give its currency a symbol that will be accepted everywhere even internationally. But I will have to say that the symbol lacks any form of innovation, every one of the five. All of them look so much alike.
The designing should have been made public (let people get creative) and the people should have been given a chance to vote for what they'd like as their currency's symbol. Agreed the sorting would've taken more time but maybe it would be worth it?

Putting om as the symbol of currency is belittling what om stands for in the first place. It will increase the value of money, and limit the importance and value of om itself.
It is clear that, the Indian Government has av very good idea and time to form a new symbol for currency. But it has no idea to raise the value of currency.

If u raise the value of currency then BPO business will collapse. Cheap Indian rupee is the sucess of india.
Could the designers not think about something other than "R" or Hindi "Ro"? The dollar sign was not developed on the letter "D" and it is innovative. Can I suggest a new symbol Mr Finance Minister? Please contact me.

Dear this was open to all indians and at that time you were sleeping. Now dont make nonsense comment. The dollar sign do come from Dollar. the the two strokes are two'L' of dollar and the letter 'S' showns common among all 'States' of America..
I am proud of you that you have made our indian currency in international identification. and which significant our nation. I found that your rupee symbol is much better than other countries curriencies.
