GROSS DOMESTIC POVERTY GDP
by Aam Admi on Jul 13, 2010 06:25 AM

Our text book economists have never learnt what poverty means. The only parameter, they have learnt to use is the Gross Domestic Product. In our great country, which is claiming to become the second economic power in the world, the GDP is contributed by only 20 percent of the total population. For the remaining 80% a different GDP or Gross Domestic Poverty applies. Our PM and his cotterie should travel to some deep pockets in Jharkhand, Bihar and Eastern UP. For the people there, the problem is not proportional representation in the parliament or equal opportunities in the IITs, it is the availability of basic life sustaining necessities, like minimal health care, clean water, a shed over their head and may be bare minimum food. I know of people, who have survived for months eating weeds and grass. May be our country now needs different set of paramgeters to measure progress at the level of a rural pooor and not at the level of Ambanis or Mittals or Jindals where GDP measures. Once we become sensitive to the necessities of the real rural poor and start addressing them, our other problems like Maoist movement etc. will solve on their own.

Antipak...don't understand your statement about Kerala women whose husbands are working abroad. Does your women folks go around screwing the neighbours the moment you men folks leave the house? It looks like your statement comes out of experience? Heard jokes about Dwivedi,Trivedi and Chaturvedi? Ask some one...

Shame on!
by Dan Lewis on Jul 13, 2010 05:36 AM

This PM and the lady behind his party flaunt about the GDP and the growth. WTF? The people are dying out of food and basic commodities. Our Ministers should be put to ordinary lifestyle as the rest of common man and ask them to feel the heat. You might have noticed that all the poorest states are run by goons and famous for goondaraj. This is just corruption. All the poorest states in India should be given to our army and those political parties of those states should be rested because they failed.

Absolutely true....

In the movie Patton - the General is shown visiting the field hospital in Sicily and asks a latino kid where he is from. Kid replies "California Sir". General Patton grins and says "Me too".

these states r full of muslims and their extremism, destructive ideas,
untill they dont stop illegal activities, start thinking constructively and participate actively in building better social surroundings. nothing will improve.
forget these states...
90% slums r getting created due to muslims in india,
and they do every illegal work in destroying social-economocal system.
main cause is their uncontrollable population, lack of education, blind ideology.

Bihar and UP, like other states have contributed great and wonderful politicians to India such as Rajendra Prasad, JP and Malviya. It's critical that all these states improve their education system and prosper one again. Because, if they dont, they will end up contributing bad politics and bad politicians. Because of the number of parliament seats they have, they can wreak havoc on national politics.

The others states should also beware and learn what not to do and not be smug! They have a long way to go. All these parameters are relative!
