by Praveen Kumar on Jul 06, 2010 11:24 AM  | Hide replies

Indira Gandhi had the slogan for Garibi Hatao version 1 in the 70's.

Media in India are worse than politicians. Garbage in Garbage out.

Why havent you written that UPA added 5.5 crore people to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) from 2004 to 2009?

And that these people along with 50% of the population of India earns 20 RUPEES A DAY.

What jobs are you talking about?

Friggin propaganda to bail out the Congress.

Our country is going to create more than 50% of the population. Where will the demand come from children, students are retired people. Is there that much business in India where 70% are living below poverty level. I being a post graduate find it difficult to get jobs.

Re: 570 million is 57 crores....not 5.7 crores
by Orient Mystique on Jul 06, 2010 11:11 AM
The article says that the present work force is estimated to be 520 million.

Apparently, the grandiose plan is to create 50 million additional jobs to take the total work force to 570 million, not create 570 million new jobs.

But rediff can breathe easy, the millions of Indians are not familiar with millions, nor can they count or visualise crores.

Leaving aside the numbers, and coming to the issue of creation of jobs itself, we have heard too many such declartions, plans, intentions from politicians in the past which have remained as such - i.e. declarations, plans and intentions without getting converted into any meaningful actions and actual creation of jobs.
