Growth should not be developed as an indicator to determine the standard of living of the people. It is the human development index which gives a broad picture about the overall human development . None can deny that the human development indicators in Bihar have not changed a bit and the State is only reeling under acute poverty. All these high growth are mere numbers which does not mean much to the masses.

Human Development Index is directly linked to the growth of the state. A state needs to generate growth which generates employment which in turn pushes income of the individual. Nitish is on the right track- you got to see that during the 15 years of Lalu regime, the state had already gone back by 30 years, he has to start from that point whereas the other states have progressed much ahead meanwhile

Economic growth only refers to the quantities of goods and services produced and has no bearing on the standard of living. High growth does not necessarily mean high employment. We all know the consequences of continuous high growth which lead to bubbles and bursts and the current financial crisis in the West is a testimony to this. There is also another argument against growth that it fosters inequality
Re: Re: Re: More hype than real

So you mean let us abandon growth because it fosters inequality?!! A welfare state is possible only if there is an is a source of income which comes from growth. And how do you increase the standard of l living if there is no growth? Please read Samuelson's Economics which might enlighten you a little bit on this. Looks like you are highly influenced by the socialist leftist views which look good in theory but is total impractical in terms of real life. You only have to see the USSR, Cuba and our own West Bengal in the backyard

better than sitting on your fat behind, writing comments on rediff, eating 4 times a day and defecating like a dg, isnt it?
Almost all the previous leaders of Bihar took the state downwards to the level of being called an outcaste state in India where nothing would work right. It took a simpleton like Nitish Kumar to set right things in the state in his own unassuming way and turn things around despite facing the same obstacles as earlier. Nitish Kumar is the TRUE Indian who should be awarded a Padma Bhushan. Will the Centre oblige and go beyond mundane politics although he is from the opposition side ? We should encourage desi initiatives.
