If some day, Gm bill is passed and modified products come into the market, the citizens would like to be able to diffrentiate btwm gm and non gm products. who ever wishes to eat gm food, can go ahead. and the one who wishes to refrain may be able to distinguish and choose non gm products. govt has to help in this regard.

Other option for food security
by sukhjinder singh on Dec 21, 2010 02:35 PM  | Hide replies

I must say that India have option other than GM crops. First of all India have sufficent land, second sufficent agriculture graudate. Govt should hire these graduate atleast on the tehsil or Block basis. Still more than 50,000 Vacancy are vacant in Govt agriculture department for the agriculture expert and agriculture advisior. Farmer are still dependent on Pesticide dealer who gave them wrong pesticide. That is why we face environment pollution. It is the weakness of Agriculture department of India that they cannot recruit agriculture advisior or Block or village Level. Also i must appriciate the Govt initiative for the Kisan call center, where farmer call on toll free number ( Any mobile) 1800 180 1551 and ask for free advise from expert regarding Agriculture, horticulture, dairy. Govt must recruit more and more agriculturist to overcome the food secruity problem. But this kisan call center suffer from Lower salary of Staff. It works 365 days from 6 am to 10 Pm. In addition to this Kisan call center All the state department should hire permanent staff for Farmer so that farmer can do good farming and Organic based farming otherwise if farmer follow pesticide dealer than Indian common people like me suffer from acidity, smoke, insecticide residue in crops. So i request Govt of India to start recruitment of Agriculture scientist on all the India basis especially in Agriculture state like Punjabm Hayrna, UP, MH, MP etc.
We have atlernative like Organic crops .

There are many errors in what you have stated.
1. We dont have enough land to feed our growing population.
2. Our traditional way of agriculure will not be able to produce enough with erratic climatic conditions.

Dear Narakasur,
I know many farmers who grow in our traditional way, they are getting good profit after adopting our own method.

GM Food
by Prasad Kulkarni on Dec 21, 2010 02:33 PM

Well, those opposing GM food have 2 options. Either die of hunger in next few years as organic food cannot be produced in large scale and those who claim are bluffing. The pest and weeds damage more than 50% of crop. The 2nd option is to live for next 50 years by consuming "poisonous GM food". Let people choose what they want. Whereas, the share of our politicians is concerned they will suck your blood anyways.

GM - is equal to Poison

Our Agriculture minister is advising to eat Poison. Dont use any GM food. Use only organic food. Our minister has some share in GM business.

Say No to GM

Rather eat something than die of hunger. Because of the excessive use of pesticides during the last 3 decades there is no way we can produce enough food to feed the growing population. We either control our population or we need to look at such ways to increase the yeild.

It is better to eat less which is healthy and avoid GM. And I know many farmers who says growing food organically is more profitable and even the production is more.

These corporates are misleading many farmers by this nonsense GM technology.

You are misguided Mr. Ravi MS. Only the farmers family can eat organic food. That is what he gets by growing organic food. I have visited more than 150 villages of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and have testimonials shot in video and havent found a single farmer opposed to GM food. Only the NGOs make this noise. I fully agree with Narakasur's views. I have been eating all GM and packaged food for last 50 years and I dont even catch a common cold. Forget about cancer and stop worrying about death due to GM food. You are not going to live forever.

non issue
by kieran dsouza on Dec 21, 2010 02:11 PM  | Hide replies

this silly debate is time and again raised by GM seeds/food proponents.

The variety of fruits available you cannot taste each one individually in your lifetime

Better to establish seed banks and maintain diversity - EXACTLY OPPOSITE what the GM advocates are trying to do

Humans should try to IMPROVE their eating habits which are very poor. Rather than depending on handful of grain, please include more and more fruit in your diet

Google FRUITARIANISM, 80/10/10 DIET, NATURAL HYGIENISTS, to know how gullible public is being manipulated into following a wrong diet
