re: development & industrlisation will help tribal fr
by E darwin on Aug 25, 2010 09:42 PM

Patnaik,

People need to wake up against wrong assumptions.

It is WRONG assumption that development CAN ONLY and only HAPPEN BY destroying TRIBALS lands to their MODERN WAYS.

Employment NEED NOT BE WHERE TRIBALS LIVE or by ravaging tribal LANDS AND HABITAT.

There is so much space in Orrisa for proper development but leave tribals AND THEIR LAND alone.

JUST RETURN THEIR TAKEN AWAY LANDS FOR GOOD OR BAD PURPOSES.

Vedanta/etc did not spend 1 billion in slums of Mumbai for obvious reasons because he cannot tap money there by mining.

--

WHY IS RAHUL rushing to Bhubneshwar Orrisa

Political scum Rahul is organizing protest over the spoils on Tribals.

THE WHOLE point is to leave TRIBALs, keep them out of politics, urbanization and ruralization and development pills.

Let them live tribal way of life. JUST KEEP YOU DYNASTY ARSEEE OUT OF THEIR WAYS.

BUT THIS SCUM BAG RAHUL GANDHI WANTS TO CORRUPT THEIR TRIBAL WAYS by being there.

by Rakesh Junjunwala on Aug 25, 2010 09:34 PM

all these days congi mans were licking vedanta's back, all of a sudden they turned against him, is this because he wanted to buy cairn oil? If he had bought cairn then reliance will get a competitor that mean reliance behind this! All these days the central gov did not had any issue so reliance is putting his thing inside congi to do all this

mining licenses sould be only in one hectare at a time
by viswanatha seshadri on Aug 25, 2010 09:27 PM  | Hide replies

govt must make it a policy to give mining licenses to companies for using only one hectare at a time. they should mine it out, in 5 years, with employment to locals and profit-shares to them also, reforest that area properly with re-housing for those displaced. when these are seen to be done properly, they can then be given another hectare of forest or hill-land forv similar utilization. the country's underground wealth can then be utilized without destroying the civilizn overground.

And again, do you know how much ore is held in one hectare and howmuch capacity utilization can take place if that is used over afive year period? Aluminium will cost more than Platinum my dear. Wake up and do your homework before you write such absurd comments.

development & industrlisation will help tribal from e

i belong to place called damanjodi where 20 year back MRS Indira Gandhi had just dreamed about the NALCO factory. Please go and see the difference, empowerment, development, education of next generation. upliftment of tribe who are working in same factory. Just see how NALco is contributing towards orissa development

why is the difference now. Mr Rahul Ghandhi should respect his grandma and support industrilisation and give equal share of wealth creation by Anil aggarwal. Paradam shieft will help all and Orissa.

why similar project in congress rule andhra pradesh is allowed which will displaced hundred of tribal in orissa. This is not important becoz church in england or italy had not shown concern.

please remember now no one can stop development..the famous diglouge of GURU BHAI

The Naxalites attacked the Nalco mines last year. The locals fully supported them and helped them to loot the explosives stored there. Wonder why Nalco has not been able to gain them over inspite of having a presence there for the last 25 years? The only development which Nalco has brought in at Damanjodi is for the educated middle class and the local netas. The tribals are as poor as ever!

A disturbing observation..
by om shanti on Aug 25, 2010 09:17 PM  | Hide replies

It was 1890,J.N.Tata was searching for a land to start the first steel plant in India..His plane hovered around a small green hilly hemlet called k.a.l.i.m.a.t.i...he decided to establish the steel plant in that v.i.r.g.i.n. land which was later became known as Jamshedpur and the steel plant started trial production in 1902.This steel plant we know as Tata Steel today and we also know how Tata has changed the living standard of thousands of tribals since then...or else that place would have been Naxal h.o.t. b.e.d. today..Well,those days, there were no:

1.Congi government
2.Bureucratic redtapism
3.Political party sponsored opposition to project
4.No P.a.t.k.a.r. or Arundhoti Roy type Page 3 social activists...
All are talking about green nature, welfare of tribals...I want to ask how many have educated a triabl illiterate people till date ?How many have visited a tribal house ? How many have known the life style of tribals even in 21st centurey when they just waste their time in cheap l.i.q.u.o.r. and C.o.c.k.(m.a.l.e. c.h.i.c.k.e.n..not something else) fighting and gambling !

Unless they get money, unless they get employment and unless they get education, they cannot improve, they just have to wait for some vatican agent to come to uplift their life in return of conversion !
Even when STERLITE wanted to take over BALCO or sick HINDUSTAN ZINC,same dramas were enacted and now everything is normal over there..
So,whatever is done, should be done for good !

The Queen is in love with the Kabadiwalla
by whipray fish on Aug 25, 2010 09:15 PM  | Hide replies

Actually, our beloved Queen is in love with the kabadiwalla. Probably he loves his macho moustaches and predatory looks! See how he (she) air dashed to Delhi to fall at the feet of the Sardarji to clear this project! When farmers are committing suicide in Orissa every day, our beloved CM is busy trying to clear Vedanta and Posco! Wonder who elected him?

Vedanta has many spokesmen, Dongria Kondhs have few!
by whipray fish on Aug 25, 2010 09:12 PM

Mohanty's article speaks volumes for the current quagmire in which devcelopmetn is languishing in this country. The Supreme Court has recenty observed in an Orissa case only that skewed development is spurring Naxalism. If you snatch away somebody's home and livelihood what will he do ? By the way, why can't we respect the wishes of the Dongria Kondhs a primitive tribal group of about 7,000 population alone? What right have we got to impose our mad consumerist lifestyles that has destroyed this world on them? And in the end why should Orissa govt. welcome a kabadiwall crook like Anil Agarwal? His company at Tuticorin faces a Rs.200 crore fine for custom duty evasion and the CEO is in jail.

Ecological System
by tejas gangane on Aug 25, 2010 09:04 PM

I think at one point author confines the forest dwellers to just forest land & not the surrounding environment. Probably this short sightedness(just to comly with legislation)aided with curroption, has crippled mother nature & consequnetly the Life sustained by her. Are we still living in world where we don't realize that Ecology can survive without Humans & other Life forms & vice-versa is impossible
