I fully agree with U tribals will be loser as always. But point to ponder is that how they can be at less disadvantage. No justice has been done to them and they were forced to adopt Naxalism. Our officer are most corrupt, inefficient and infested with serious desies of procrasination.I have lived amongst these people while serving at Ranchi/Rourkela which is part of Chota Nagpur. Just, I want to bring a news to your notice. I'm at present in NYC and couple of days back there was a news item on front page of NewYork Times stating the conditions prevaiing in Jhabua Distt. of M.P. and narrated the condition of one Mr. Bhuria, landless labour, who was in District Hospital alongwith his two undernourished childeren. Kindly note that Bhurias are also a part of primitive tribe. I immediately sent two mails ,one to District Collector and another to PR deptt. of MP state Givt. Till today my communication couldn't evoke anr response. Collector's duty is to ensure that atleast bare minimum infrastrctue is inplace. I'm havng internet and U too but howmany tribals are connected with internet and who would listen to them. I want to terminate it here by mentioning that something should be in place because they do not how to manage money which would be granted as compensation to these poor people. I really feel for Orissa because its CM is passive one and he has left the state's administrative machinery in the hand of a MP who is ruling roost in Delhi as member of UpperHouse. Thaks and Re

@ Mr.Biswal can you plz provide examples where tribals have developed due to mining in Orissa
Poor cong govt can not understand the development of tribals will happen only if the surroundings get developed. The ministry should come to the tribal dominated districts of orissa where the tribals are educated, wealthy due to industrialisation in their areas. Biggest ex post independenc era:- Bokaro steel plant in jharkhand, rourkela steel plant in rourkela Bhilai steel plant in chhatisgarh, jamshedpur was a tribal vill named sakchi before tata steel came.

Well said mr Biswal, congi govt dont int for ORISSA development due to NAVIN not given support.if vedant will sucess Cong return to power in orissa is a day dream. any way no cong in orissa another 2 dacades.its sure. all are politics. cong given permission for 20 acer land in kurnool jungle( where YSR dies ) to build park and statue, but not a single industry in ORISSA. Orissa people will give a lession to Cong in due time.
Mohanty, do you really mean this when you say: "From the Saxena Committee report (which is silent on this subject), it would appear that Mr Saxena would like them to continue as 'forest dwellers' in perpetuity so that they continue to enjoy their 'forest rights' "
You think Vedanta taking over the hill & mining it to death will bring prosperity to the tribals and villagers who are displaced? What about mining in Karnataka, Chattisgarh & Jharkand. Please mention one city or one village/ hamlet in whole of India which got benefitted by mining? How can you spread blatant lies without any heart?

Agree. This article just goes no to show how bureaucrats have ruined many areas and have been used by the governments to create a propoganda for them. This article is proof of how senior fellow and an ex bureaucrat is now toeing the state governments line and vedantas too....maybe a PR job in the offing?
Vedanta's economic hitmen are all out in Media to cry foul. You have looted the tribals and country so far. Now, finally, environment ministry is waking up to its responsibilities and you can't digest it.
Once in a while poor man can win a battle too and big corporates will not be able to digest it. While you are trying to blame ministry and disguise your intentions by raising doubts, you aren't saying anything about allegations against Vedanta.
Forget jairam Ramesh, N C Saxena is a very honest man and we completely trust his judgement.
