Poverty can be calculated on the base of No of Mobile Users in India. India has 650 million of Mobile users in the world 2nd highest after China. Out of every 100 Indian 65 are using Mobile phone.Even a beggar in the street is holding Mobile Phone in India.

I believe that whoever is deprieved of the fundamental rights described in the constitution like right to dignity, right to speech, right to education, etc are considered to be BPL. The Indian Government should be working towards providing these rights to the Indian population BPL

the government allocates a fortune every year but the tragedy is it does not reach the cause and needy and swindled by politicians, middlemen and bureaucrats. This trend is difficult to change in this country since majority of mind are totally corrupt and are self centered.

Very true. These rhodents are the cause of all our problems. But who can stop them? who will fight. The poor people are easily exploited during the elections. One saree and 500 rupees will buy them a vote. and from each vote, they make atleast a crore. Party system is worsening the case. Goondas, thieves and culprits are getting tickets from the most respectable parties and winning.
When GOD has blessed with money, it doesnt mean you have done something good in last life. In this way GOD is testing you whether you will serve the poor or not. Remember Ambani, GOD could have easily replaced you over others, there are so many people in India who have brighter brains than you.
Investing Money in IPL will not do much good to you in the hereafter life. Same with Shahrukh who is investing in IPL and Islands in Dubai etc.
Iam not demanding any of these people but remember you people are spending neglegible percentage to poor. Your deeds are with you and my deeds are with me. Remember GOD will punish/reward you based on what comfort level he decides one to live in this world!!!!

Please dont come up with all cranky things syed...Hindu religion is first to intiate Dharma, karma all...there is nothing special in islam apart from terrorism and treating women like a manufacturing unit....world knows about ur religion, pls keep off from this thread...
Poverty in India can only be reduced if we head towards linguistic nations, from the present linguistic states. If people of different languages keep living together, most of the GDP will be used up in keeping the nation together, leaving very little for poverty alleviation. Linguistic nations, therefore, is the need of the hour. This will free us from internal strife, and also create smaller manageable nations. Our Hindi nation will still be fairly big comprising ten Hindi states (UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, and Himachal), but it will be much more manageable than the present day India which is simply ungovernable.

Not possible for next 100yrs.Although we boast of technology development or being the best in IT after US or talk about Malls and multiplexes, we are no where near worlds top 10 nations.How much of allocated funds reach the deserving ? Not even 30% of the BPL families ! Where does this go ? ask the politicians and the govt servants ! The system of monitoring PDS,education funds,health funds, defence funds,agri funds,infrastructure funds,nothing is being monitored in a proper scientific manner.Corruption is rampant every where.The politician-Babu nexus is so strong that hardly 30% reaches the deserving.Even the funds borrowed from World bank go into the foreign bank accounts of politicians and the Govt Babus invest this borrowed money to built properties. The planning commission should first think and plan channelising the funds through proper channel to deserving people,the monitoring has to be at least 95% correct.The erring govt servants should be immidietly sacked and all his dues should be blocked.The interfering politicians should be arrested and sent to jail for atleast 10yrs.The corruption by politicians and the govt servants must be eating mininmum of Rs 2 lac crores per annum. if Ahluvalia succeeds in arresting this waste of money no Indian will sleep hungry in open air, all BPL families can have Roti Kapda Aur Makan comfortably and contribute towards progress of Nation,Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,Bharat Jodo etc have all gone to dogs because of policians and govt Babus.
There is saying “ Born poor in not in our hand however die as poor is” . Indian poor are poor because of their attitude to remain as poor. They must be taught to “Root hog or die poor”. Charity must be stopped rather NGO should try to change their mentality. It is only the way India could drive poverty.

This Empowered Business is a JOKE. People who enter by facevalue through personal sycophancy quotient into committees are worse than those sitting by the roads for alms and grains of food. The Tendulkar Committee report should be thrown away. That sounds like a Marathi Manus name. Every body knows that such committees should be headed by Bengalis or Tamils. Look at the previous committees since 1947.
1. Every day one or the other report / news appearing on Rediffmai about poverty, hunger, malnutrition etc.
2. The answer to the root cause of all the above three factors is population rise.
3. India is having 2.5 % of world land area supporting 17 % population.
4. This is the root cause of poverty, hunger malnutrition.
5. No political party talks of the population rise today.
6. Every body is appreciating the rise of young population in India.
7. It is ok but till what number; when we shall be 175 crores i.e. no. 1 in the world in population.
8. It would be too late by then.
9. India would march towards devastation supporting 175 crores.
10. It is right time India should adopt ONE CHILD POLICY NORM which China did it in 1978.
11. Chinese policy makers had vision & political wisdom in 1978.
12. We are still ignorant about the fact that India is marching towards very serious repercussions due to population rise. It can even disintegrate if situation went out of control and other countries are waiting eagerly to see it happen.
13. Hope sense would prevail with our policy makers at least in 2010 after 32 years when Chinese leadership shown wisdom.
14. Does it need rocket science to be understood by our policy makers the serious threat it is posing on India’s development efforts.

I understand and appreciate your point.
However, please also remember that in spite of the huge population in India, the level of poverty could have been much lower had there been honesty and integrity among our politicians and business people. Have you calculated the amount of money lost, misused or otherwise appropriated by our politicians? For example, let us just calculate the amount of money wasted by Ms Mayawati for erecting her statues, and you will find the answer!!
Similarly, have you calculated the amount of money wasted on account of bank loans given to the top industrial and corporate houses of the nation who never bothered to pay back the money? For example, a staggering amount of more than Rs 1000 million is reportedly due from these corporate houses only on account of unpaid loans and interests thereon.
So, while controlling population may be the real need of the hour, please also try to understand the other reasons as well.
