Given an opportunity, these self-styled defenders of democracy will first turn out to be autocrats.
They simply choose to forget that our society needs development and our young educated people need employment. Where on earth will that happen unless there are industries? And where will industries take place unless on land? On the moon? Or in the air? Moreover, the investors must be given some freedom of choice in the matter of location and other considerations. Otherwise, why will they be feel tempted to set up the business? Do these champions of liberty think that the world will dance to their tunes?
These people have done enough damage to the industrial prospects of India. In Bengal, they have taken care to drive out Ratan Tata (who, by the way, has been recognised as one of the leading thinkers in today's corporate world)! They have also put paid to the prospects of Nandigram, in the name of liberty.
Given their way, India will have only liberty, and no employment!

Well said, Haramohan, and very timely too, with the Aruna's and Arundhati's badmouthing India( the latter being the worst!)
In India there seem no dearth of champions of the oppressed. You find them at every street corner holding a placard or a mouth piece.
What these folk do is , pick any issue - ranging from coal mining through SEZ and rally unsuspecting people around them and begin sloganeering against every thing that is not - agriculture, not- freebies and not- rustic.
As some one said in this message board, robinhoodism is a fashion now a days - from starlests of bollywood, fashion models and pretty much every one who does not have any thing to do during the 12 hour day.
Fact of the matter is these guys are real enemies to the oppressed for the repeatedly assert that 'hey you guys are oppressed and cheated . so fight' and then all hell breaks lose. They never tell the so called 'oppressed' to work hard.
Villagers are innocent, Farmers are guillible, illeterate are easy to con- all these notions belong to a bygone era. They are smart and cunning and know how to sell themselves. Now that these messaishs are with them - from medha patkar through mamta nennerji, they are more in advantage than the hard working urban Indian. Infact these so called villagers have best ofo the both worlds.
What people like the protagonist of this movement doing is building their own base , may be for political reasons or as said, there is nothing more to do.
Why not she go to some village and develop that village instead of making worthless arguments and showering cliches ?
How to become instanly famous- become a champion of the poor and down-trodden, the victims of the evil Capitalism and its money-grubbing capitalist class. Industry- Evil, Unemployed- Heavenly; Having money- Bad, Starvation- Good. With hundreds of millions poor, illiterate and unemployed, India desperately need many millions more like her to bedevil the heartless business-wallahs, who not only want to fleece the poor aam aadmi, but steal their lands for SEZs and make them perpetually hungry paupers.

China and India are two extrems of a spctrum. In China it is legal to put behind bar any one who questions the government policy - indefinitely. China has the largest number of human rights abuse cases (known). China is a communist country and there is no stage for political pluralism - so there is no ideological pluralism.
Secondly why SEZ ?
Because it is in vogue to fight against SEZs ? fighting for the imaginary causes is fashionable?.
Yes, there are people who have no access to the basic needs of the society. But then, people like Ms ROy, if she is a true civil servant and concerned about their development has to find out the root cause. Corruption is a known cause, illeteracy is a known cause why not take them up ? Why SEZ ? Because SEZs are soft targets and they are visible. SEZs are operated by people who are educated and more vulnerable to nuisance than the corrupt officials and politicians ?
Guess people like her are only creating nuisance and obstacles rather than being champions of the poor (now whatever that means beacsuee everyone these days claim they are - even the guy caught on tape taking bribe before elections). So, we have no faith in your championship.
Show us some substance instead of jingoistic circus feats.
Freedom of movement ? Tomorrow she will go to some defense establishment like DRDO or ISRO or Nuclear facility and cry fowl for not allowing her into it ? What kind of a meaningless argument she is hanging on to ?
The way she is arguing begs one to contemplate if she has rudimentary commonsense and aptitude for unbiased judgement.
Like defence establishments which are in existence for a specific purpose - that of protecting the soverienity of India, the SEZs are there for a purpose - that of economic wellbeing of the nation. Under the existing law, the export unit of a SEZ will get tax benefits and infrastructure facilities from the government. In return, government fixes export target for that unit ( we call standard design factories). In essence they earn for the country what peple like Ms Roy have luxury to abuse daily called - FOREX and thats what makes india economically strong.
Now, there are lapses in SEZ act. But people like her should instead fight for fixing these lapses Or she can fight for the fruits of these SEZs reach peasants she is so vociferously vanguarding for they gave away the ploughable land. Instead she chose to resort to jingoistic jargon - fundamental rights, oppression and so on. It creates more nuisance than serving real purpose.
Mamta bennerji, Arudhati Roy, And now Aruna Roy..is there a pattern here ? Why do we entertain these people in the first place ?

Mamata Bannerjee is a Bengali, Arundhati Roy is a Malayali and Aruna Roy is a Tamilian, they are all Indians of the same gender but not from the same state.
No recognition for such a champions by Indian society!!!!
She has chuked a plum IAS job!!! to serve common man...what a great sacrifice for people..hardly anu recognition for such champions...
She is true Indian hero......
India is going to suffer another humilation like 26/11 ,until we learn to respect true people who are honest, and committed.
Our soceity should banish and ostrasize who are corrupt & dishonest..social bycott....
until such time Indians would suffer another subjugation for long....

Nice script. Try approach a producer. And don't forget couple of item songs.
Jambories like you make this society a laughing stock. You Baffoons do one thing and one thing only, get excited watching some piece of crap on TV or movies and then go about shouting slogans.
When faced with a testing situation, people like you and your 'true indian heros' who talk bombastic hot air and rubbish are the first ones to scram for safety leaving behind every one you rallied until that point.
People like you stunt the thinking capacity of Indians beyond meaningless fights - becase those fights kick your testosteron or adrenalin and then a bollywood song.
Why do people need agricultural land for SEZs? Let SEZs be developed in sea, uninhabited islands near shores, land belonging to sick industries and if necessary on land of existing urban colonies.
These are basically waste lands and thus should be given preference for development of any infrastructure over agricultural or forest land.
Why there's a problem is because of an act which gives the right to bureaucrats/ministers to convert any land into an agricultural land. Therefore, SEZ/industry takes advantage of this and wilfully "persuades" the bureaucrat/minister to convert huge hectares of land to industrial. Scores of farmers are in this manner, forced and coerced to sell their land against their wishes. This just has to be stopped, otherwise India will face huge food problem
Now if the SEZ developers themselves go to the farmers who wish to sell their land without coercion, then that should be allowed. But that seldom happens, because some agree, some dont and SEZs need contiguous land. But all in all, they cant force anyone out of their land.

Sorry read the first line as "Why there's a problem is .... convert any land into an industrial land"
