Satyam
by sixto dsilva on May 16, 2009 03:06 AM  | Hide replies

Satyam is currently in deep trouble. Congress just helped till the election just to ensure it doesnt have impact on voting.I help reducing the work force will help. It will be tuff to buildup the reputation again. There are big companies like TCS , wipro which will be in advantage position to get better deals and steal some from satyam.

IT Tsunami coming
by vinod kumar on May 16, 2009 03:02 AM  | Hide replies

SAAS is coming. Companies (especially the midsize) will no longer have huge IT teams and budgets. Most IT will be delivered on the cloud as a service. 50% of IT jobs worldwide will disappear in 4-5 years. Indian IT companies are doomed as they are stuck in cost and labor arbitrage mode and have not moved up the value chain. We have to learn from Taiwan and Singapore which have moved up the value chain.

Vinod, you might be correct in the prediction of the future, but rest assured your timelines are way off. If even 10% of the so-called IT jobs worldwide disappear, I'll personally vouch for you as the 'Nostradamus of the modern era'. Job loss now is a direct consequence of the financial turmoil, it will not get back to 2004-2005 kind of job market, for the next decade or so, but before the concept of SAAS takes over the world, it's going to be a while.

I am laughing in the whole IT industry, who offers you 50k initial salary then sack whenever thay want.
It means that either you will be with "Full of Stomach" or "Nothing in Stomach".
No consistency, a clerk in the Govt service is far better than IT peoples, atleast they are sure of paying the installement for there children loans for coming 20 years,But you ae not.
Be a tortoise with cosistency not rabit with volatility.Atleast think about your family if not abt you.

Spandan,

Your figures are wrong. IT does not contribute 50% of India's GDP! If the total size of the IT industry is about $40 billion, are you saying that India's GDP is only $ 80 billion? Where do you get such figures from? Have you checked out the latest RBI survey, published in their website? Or is too much to ask an "IT" smart alec to do his homework???????

Looks like u dont have the maturity to comment to a reader's website like this. I believe u know some english and some internet knowledge and huge misbelievings and living for nothing useful for this world. An IT guy atleast earns huge money and spends 50 to 60 % of that in this country and you earn nothing and spend nothing for the development of India. IT guys get good salary and pay huge taxes that are even higher than your monthly take over..

Most IT companies pay about 15 to 17K as starting salary......

People with 3 to 4 years of experience make 50K in some companies like CTS....if it is a chindi chor company like TCS, you will take home 50K after 5/6 years of service......
Don't have an exagerrated view of the IT industry....

Tech Mahenra is not a charity organisation!
by mallaiah anchoori on May 15, 2009 11:41 PM  | Hide replies

Tech Mahendra is not a charity organisation to allow the entire staff strength on the rolls since they mean business. All the reports of the Satyam scandal clearly indicate that the company was overstaffed & the figures of their salaries over stayed just to boost up the image of the company which ultimately revealed its dubious distinction with admittance all the foul play resorted by Raju, its ex-chairman.It appears true that the plans of lay-offs by the Tech Mahendra are deliberately kept in abeyance keeping in view the adverse impact it was likely to leave-especially on the prospects of the party which is wildly & widely believed to be behind Raju shielding him indirectly.Getting demoralised over the lay offs by the core staff of the company is like the proverbial confession that a butcher is always unmindful of the tears shed by the scape goat.It is incumbent on the part of Tech Mahendra to prove prudent & shrewd for the monies it invested in a stigamatised company like Satyam & they would be doing any thing they like to to ensure their own returns on the investment made.It is not that the Satyam employees never feared the retrenchment. They should have & searched for the other alternatives months back itself when the fraud by Raju came to light.Wise are those who already left & settled elsewhere. These are really doom days for the IT professionals in Hyderabad-more so of Satyam.Any thing that surges suddenly is likely to fall down steeply & is worth suspicion always.

Hi New York,

Have you ever tried being an entrepreneur yourself? It is not easy, believe me. It is absolutely presumptuous to state that these entrepreneurs have earned money from the slavery of the employees. Many employees have been able to live a better life, take care of their families, send their children to good schools, buy second and third homes, go on annual holidays and do other things that people from other strata of society might not be able to aspire for. To a very large extent, they could do this because wealth was shared. We all know how Mr.NRN's driver too had stock options of more than Rs 1 Cr. Can you create such wealth for your servants at home? It is all easy to say that this was a function of the stock markets - lazy people give that argument. You also need to build a company that is valued by the markets. That is what Mr.NRN, Mr. AZ etc have done.

Let us not envy their wealth; if at all we should envy anything, let us envy their courage, and commitment and let us try to aspire for those qualities.
