Govt. should think of introducing Polymer banknotes. Polymer banknotes also incorporate many security features not available to paper banknotes, making counterfeiting much more difficult.

RBI is doing its best to educate the general public
by mallaiah anchoori on Jun 29, 2009 08:18 AM  | Hide replies

No doubt, the compulsion made on the part of the banks to use Note Sorting Machines could reduce, to some extent, the incidence of counterfeit notes & their early detection, nothing in world replaces the human ingenuity & the perversion it breeds in some cases. There cannot be a fool proof preventive measure as long as the brain of the criminals works more than like mercury-always one step ahead than the law & regulatory agencies. We should thank the RBI which,is,from time to time, trying to educate the general public on the allied matters-especially in regard to the cardinal points helping in detection of such currency. General public is always willing to extend its helping hand of by reporting such incidents,
but the problem is with the investigating authorities who try to harass the reporting member of the public & at times, implicating the poor person bringing the incidents to their notice instead of making a thorough & sincere investigation of the matter.RBI cannot just impose a ban of particular series of notes just on reason of suspicion since it could create fear waves in the minds of general public besides creating legal problems;the currency notes barring one rupee are legal tender& are express promise made by the RBI Governor on behalf of the Govt of India. At best,it can only caution the public & notify the preventive measures to identify the notes.Eradication of the forged notes & bringing to book the culprits is primarily the task of the law enforcing agencies.

Barcode Currencies
by Jayakumar Pillai on Jun 28, 2009 05:10 PM  | Hide replies

Why Cant govt introduce Barcode in all the corrrencies. Atleast govt could easily recognize whether they have released this notes or note. Govt should issue machines required to identity this notes to all the banks.

Majority of the notes are circulated in India have been printed in Pakistan. Crores and crores of fake curreicies have been floated in India which is printed in Pakistan as a report read earlier.

Either Govt. should have e-note system or atleast Barcode.

Hpe our new govt will look in this.

Jayan.

Your advice is of no use. We are waiting for guidance from Mdm Sonia Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh and Mr Rahul Gandhi (with Ms Priyanka Gandhi waiting in the wings).
