by Sunit Kumar on Dec 21, 2009 03:39 PM  | Hide replies

First let them become Metros. You cant call Slumbai, GandhCUTTA, Poorani_delhi and Chennai_Village as cities. They are a large congregation of people with some shiny spots !!

Sometime back I heard that an ex-IITian, Prakash Vaithyanathan, has suggested a way to save water in the railway coaches in India. I read that article in Times of India. Not only that he went on to win the Green Apple award from England at the House of Commons for that idea What are the Railways doing... Savings can come from anywhere

IITians are not contributing enough, just want to grab the attention and win awards , they do nothing for the country. almost 90% of scientists in Govt of India are from non-IITians - at least they are modest enough to serve for the country. IITians only want to crack CAT and become managers

Dev you are right in general but there are exceptions. This particular IITian has given the entire design free of cost to Railways.

Water shortage
by arungopal agarwal on Dec 21, 2009 03:17 PM  | Hide replies

Our land is limited, increased population cannot be employed in agriculture. No one bothered to control the unwanted population. People are compelled to migrate to metro cities for their bread. Our politicians do not have vision to provide/arrange amenties first before expanding any metro or city.

water crisis
by Chellam Balasundaram on Dec 21, 2009 03:16 PM

The report is heart rending and adds woes to the already burdened heart of responsible citizens who are aware but whose hands are tied. The power crisis in Tamil Nadu is one such one; there was such a hue and cry by public and press and the minister for electricity went public stating that DMK will not be restored to power due to the unmanageable power crisis. But people have conveniently accepted the crisis like the unprecedented hike in cereals and rice. On the one hand there is a crisis in production of rice, oil seed there is free distribution to lure vote banks. There are novice politicians
who assure that grocery will be distributed free of cost at door. Abuse of water is another major issue to reckon with. I congratulate rediff for bringing out such informative news; let other media follow suit.
