Anil Dhirubhai Ambani - Young, Visionary and a Leader
by Amit Manyarya on Mar 06, 2008 09:35 PM

This is just the begining Folks! ADA will rock in near future. With Power, Enery, Capital & Telecommnication Companies he is all set to write a new script of Success. I would like to ask those who are cribbing on his Billionaire status that who's stopping them to become next Ambani, Mittal or Mallya. Least they can do is develop their skill, acumen and calibre to that level that every Ambani, Mittal and Mallya would want them to be on their board.

Rich India or poor India?
by divyang patel on Mar 06, 2008 09:18 PM  | Hide replies

Hi,
I have something to say which all of you wont agree.
Being a largest democratic country in the world, can you think why India is still a poor nation? its because of ppl like Ambanis... the wealth is unevenly distributed...
Look at China its Richer than India and some of the main line cities are more than 50 years ahead of India... but they have less number of Billionaries ........
This raises a question is it good to have Democratic country where money is unevenly distributed or to live in a communist country where government make sure that the money is kindly distributed.

I believe we should not have more number of billionaries..

thanks

Well Mr Sharma,
Thanks for your comment. Even I am against communism... but democracy in India is even worse than the communism in China... my point is why to have countable 10 (billionaires) in a country where there are 1billion ppl..

CEOs vs other employees
by Kittappa on Mar 06, 2008 08:51 PM  | Hide replies

Let me point out one more difference between other companies and the Indian companies:

sure Indian companies have so many billionaires these days.
the companies like Microsoft Google etc are some of the top employers....they have very good record of being good employers. Indian companies just try to make money. Show me the name of one Indian company that is listed among the top employers of the world? Not withstanding the billionaires, it is a fact that as employers tata, reliance, infy etc are horrible at world standards. doesnt that say something about their attitude? Why is it that their CEOs are so rich (comparable to CEOs of microsoft google boeing etc) but employees are paid so poorly compared that of microsoft , google boeing etc? the fact reamins that they dont want to encourage talent, nor do they want to be good employers,,,,they just want to become rich by looting.

All the Big companies in the US are incurring billions of dollars as losses and the US economy is sinking into recession. Nowhere else in the world would you see a disaster like the Subprime crisis. So much for all the talk about US companies.

There are several Indian Companies who pay well and take care of their employees

I am not talking only about the US companies. My point is somehow Indian company CEOs are super rich billionaires. Yet their comapnies are not very good employers, yet they dont have any world calss products.

Jamshedpur has been made 'Jamshedpur' at the time of Russy Modi. The company you used in example is not a 'great' employer. I know Telco also which looks great from outside but inside story is horrible from employee point of view. At the same time, the attitude of US company towards its employees is far more professional, that much I can say.

You are to some extent right. Bad employers are also there in the US. Google, microsoft are exceptions. But as a whole you are right. We done have talent-nourishing culture in India. It may be because of its abundance. But it is fact that attitude of Indian company is really pathetic towards employee. Again it may be probably because of no scarcity of talent in India unlike in the developed country like US.

PhD is still a highly sought after thing in the US in every field - be it CS, engineering, arts, music , economics or any other field. Contrary to what you might have heard, there is a very good chunk of americans doing PhD.
You dont need to distrust what i have said. I am Ivy leaguer ( if you dont know what that means, search online)

dont expect companies to do philanthopy. infrastructure is the duty of the state. For being good employers, the comapnies dont have to establish shops in impoverished places...it depends on how they treat the people they hire. If they hire the way you suggested, they will become like government of India offices....but they have to survive on their own unlike the governments which get the taxes anyway.

Billionaires from India
by Joseph on Mar 06, 2008 08:37 PM  | Hide replies

Some interesting points.

In USA when Microsoft swallowed Netscape navigator as per the monopoly restrictions the y had a strong case and what I beleive they had to pay huge fines to save MIcrosoft from being divided.

Michael Jackson is nowhere in USA after the case against him for child molestation.

In India Reliance is promoted very heavily by the media, but they are taking the natural resources like petroleum and cashing on that for their wealth creation. Waht I feel is being a natural resource Indian government shoul have created more levies on the revenue from the petroleum.recently Reliance started with their retail division. What the government should make sure is that the common man who is earni ng a living by small shop should is in danger of being deprived of his living.

Tatas make steel, again a natural resource.

The authorities should have a proper control on these giants.

Wonder proper taxes are paid by these people for their wealth. ad initiallly for the

Also one concern is about all the land taken by these people for leases for industrial purposes they had returned back or did they take more.

Recently in Keral we had issue of TATAs taking more land than what was actually alloted in Munnar.

And to the readers these are the some genuine concerns of a normal indian citizen. I can be 100% wrong / partially right.

Please correct me if I am wrong, encourage serious genuine discussions about the same.

WaltaireJoseph

a goof point... but one should not forget that tisco has been investing in iron ore mining and set up infrastructure in bijar sice 1915.. when no one wanted to look at thiose areas... same in case ofrelinace in jamnager and patalganga.. we are crying foul and saying' natutal resources are being raped'.... bu the point is all residents in those areas are happy that someone invested in those areas and gave them a decent life... also in munnar... no ove was aware what munnar was .. and TN and Kerala were wanting to push that area to each other when states were being demarcated... plantation owners at least generated employment and set up infrastructuer when no minister and activist wanted to vsist that place.... now after 100 years.. and booming real estate prices.. all activists and politicians want to eject the tatas and claim those lands as their own... my question is of the land of government in kerala... why is the government not interested in claiming the land encraoched by politcians in cities... and invest in rural infrastructe.. instead of ejecting people who are investng time and capital in investing for betterment at grass root level...

Indian Billionaires???
by Akshay Singh on Mar 06, 2008 08:31 PM  | Hide replies

I believe that there is a very basic difference between US billionaires and Indian billionaires.
If you look up US billionaires, they have achieved it by their talent, but if you look up indian billionaires they have achieved it may be wealth inherit from their parents or their company's employees are working day-night to make them rich and they amy also doing some unlawful thing to gain money, but not bcause of their talent.

I surprised when these indian calls themselves the most talented people in this planet.
There is no big invention has been done in india, we are just using this technology which purely invented in other countries like in US, Europe etc.

I agree with you 100%...these spoilt kids have got decent companies from their parents, the economic boom in INdia has made them rich. There is not even a single product from all the Indian companies put together that is comarable 0.00000000000000001% to what impact Google has had for example.

Indian people just want to think they are great. they want to relate themselves to success by hook or crook. THat is why they make a big hue and cry when anybody of Indian origin achieves anything. okay i will say INdians are great if that makes yyou people happy.

One farmer commits suicide every 4 hours in India. Ten years ago rate was a farmer suicide every 8 hours. Something is really terribly wrong in all these grandiose hypes.
