Finance Minister Forgot Service Tax for Doctors Again
by Sandeep Sinha on Feb 29, 2008 09:31 PM  | Hide replies

We are aware of quacks. We read about doctors with fake medical degrees. We face about illicit kidney transplants. We suffer because of malpractices by some people who are not doctors. With the inclusion of doctors in the service tax, many such problems which a human has to go through, they can be prevented. Prevention is better than cure. Doctors are no Gods. Only God is God. Since doctors give service to the patients, why should they be not included in service tax? We love those doctors who really serve their patients.

Is it true.. mr.Baidya doesn't like to make money...? u r using this computer, internet and tasting chicken in KFC.. everything because of globalisation... u accept gobalisation in enjoying cars and computers... but u dont want globalisation in the medical field. if u live like a person of 80s and 90s, we may not charge you heavily. Now people are earning money in dollars, talks bout stocks,McD,martini and confront evry word that we say in the clinic, like a western man, then we have to behave like a western doctor. I want this gentleman to go to a foreign country( where people talk much about humanity and human rights), wait for a doctor and pay for a doctor. Only then this gentle man( Mr.Baidya) will realise that doctors are doing service cheaply and promptly in india. I accept we are no longer demi-gods and please dont talk about us. you can get doctors for any money in India according to your wealth status unlike in abroad. i know many doctors are doing service for just 20 or 30 rupees in poor areas.if you dont want to pay from your pocket, just go for medical insurance. you are having insurance for ur cars, bikes, for IT rebate, why not for your health without which everything is waste.
Dr.G.Thiyagu,MD
pb. pls dont think that this doctor is money minting and havent seen any village. i've served for more than 3 years in remote villages in the rural district of villupuram,TN. To view my opinion about the farmers loan waiver ,p ls go to yesterdays message board.

Mr. sodhi, doctors are not doing any social service. Education is costly for any professional field depending on the market demand of that profession. And in each professional service, you have to update your knowledge regularly with the latest things. Whatever reason you have quoted here, is true with any profession. And in city like Bangalore, they already charge quite hefty amount to the patient. So why shouldn%u2019t they pay service tax.

True..Just see how the doctors in govt. hospitals respond to the patients..they wouldn't even bother to listen to the patient..They don't even have the conscience that they are getting paid by the govt. to do the job...

We don mind paying service tax if you people pay us what we ask( without making comment on the back or in the unrelated forums like this) and you people have health insurance. Doctors association didnt represent to the finance minister or PM not to introduce service tax or tax holidays for hospitals... They respect us and we'll do service to the people who is too illiterate and poor to use computers and internet.

But that will only be the case when the patient is asking for a bill.. and you know how we operate in India. So except where reimbursement is sought I dont think the patient would bother to ask for a bill.

excellent budget

It seems PC wants to please all. Hope this will stop farmers from ending their lives. For me IT exemption limit is a great news. Let's hope the benifit of cutting of excise duty would be passed on to us and that will definately bring down the prices of essentials at least a bit.

DEBT DRAP MAY HAPPEN SOON
by santosh kapoor on Feb 29, 2008 07:35 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Finanace Minister,
You have put your country another 50 years by puting 60,000 crores just to get the farmers votes to have thier votes in forhcoming elections,I have following questions to you

01.Why you have not reduced interest rates for farmers rather than paying thier debt?

02.Every budget you spend thousands of crores for rural development,do you have any such mechanism to know whether the money is realy reaching to poor people.

03.Is there any audit for irrigation spendings.

04.This year you have given 60,000 crores to farmers and reduced excise duty on many commodity, from where you are going to bring money,we know you will go and beg to world bank for further loans, nobody including yourseld know how you are going to payback world bank loans.

Hi I'm Dr.Thyagu, a city based pediatrician. First we'll have these words in our mind'everyone is a human being'.
There is nothing wrong in waiving poor farmers loans. We are all indians and we should be ready to take some burden for them if our country goes for a debt( which is unlikely).
I strongly believe in the concept that evry one should get the minimum wage and every one has the rights to leed a life with minimum standards.
Have you noticed in the budget that pay for anganwadi worker's is raised... but the
pity thing is they are getting only one thousand a month which is equivalent to our cell phone bills or less than that. u know farmers are poorer than them.
I've visited the USA and the UK. i found one important thing there... There's not much city-village difference. U'll have to buy ur stuffs in croggers, wall mart, sainsbury or aldi. these shops will be found everywhere including villages. also, earnings by the farmers who are living in the villages will be similar to those who earn in the cities.
Though we're unable to give them facilities that we enjoy let them have peace of mind with these waivers.
I've realised about the pathetic life of farmers as i've worked in the villages after my MBBS for 3 years from 2000-2006.
Though I'm basically against the free schemes and tax cuts, but i guess, its the need of the hour for the farmers now.
Even in america, president Bush has announced tax cuts just to improve the buying power of the americans. Here we should

You are right Mr Santosh. One Maharaja (VP Singh) doled out Rs.10000 crore writing off farmers loans and we Indians paid the penalty for the largess. This time, it is going to be still worse. Who has time and mind to care for the real imact of such acts. if our leaders had such qualities we would have been a different nation by this time.
