Besides the rhetoric, experts should look into international data on productivity Versus weekly working hours. As far as I know, there is an optimum working hours per week beyond which productivity decreases. Has any one done any serious research to establish what is the OPTIMUM weekly hours for Indian condition. Unless it is done, we might be making India poorer by working those extra hours suggested.

Thats the Law of diminishing returns - productivity decreases beyond a certain limit.

Most countries fix that at 40 hours per week. But again, these are developed countries. hence, most MNCs frustrated with that are shipping jobs to the third world like ours where no labour laws would exist and their motto reads : EXPLOIT well, even if laws did exist, then you could change them for a price. what say FM???

Growth!!!!! for the 80% of Indians living in villages indian growth is unbearable. Wealth is concentrated more towards urban areas where the economics principles work (all the figures like GDP,inflation, growth).... So coming years India will see social uprest all over the country. Call it terrorism or nexalism but the urban India will be perished by revoltiing villages

Wake-up PM - 60 Hours a week for whom??
by Ravi Kumar on Feb 28, 2008 04:45 PM  | Hide replies

Many of us who are in pvt sector & mnc's are already working 60 hrs a week. This should be applicable to all ministers & govt bureaucrats. Shame on the Govt who squeezes out money in the form of incom-tax from hard working Non govt employees !!

Inflation
by Satishchander Kapoor on Feb 28, 2008 03:16 PM  | Hide replies

How inflation is calculated only FM and RBI knows? I dont think FM or Govr. of RBI evergo to marketto buy ration or vegetables or fuits for their families. By giving the figures how long one can fool the public! FM should go to the public and get first hand information ratherthan relying on Babus. The picture is not rossy as painted by F>M>

by Gaurav Gupta on Feb 28, 2008 02:42 PM  | Hide replies

Why not ministers try to work for atleast 48 hrs in a week during parliament session in which they always try to stop the session. More over the salries of minister is almost equal to 600 Hrs of common man per weeks ..............
what should PM says about this??????
