corruption in india
by on Apr 16, 2008 12:44 AM

The article says a lot. We are one of the most corrupt nations in the world. Our press is hardly free. Our governments hold back advertisements when realism appears in the press, they send goondas to break media property [remember Madurai]. Our politicians have institutionalized dynastic rule, so all of Karunandihi's family are involved in running Tamil Nadu. Our courts are log jammed with cases from 20 and 30 years ago. We have forgotten that Justice Delayed is Justice Denied. Our corproate chieftains touch the feet of our politicians and salivate in thier presence. No politicain ever said - hey stop these gifts, give equivalent money to a charitable institution. We have a job to do for our future generations - what will our grandchildrne think of us - our political system is as bad as the Italian one. Dear countrymen and country women, we must take pride in ourselves, our country, our work, our heritage. Let us teach about corruption in our high schools, so that children will learn about the evils of such a system early in life. Let neighborhoods gather together, and demand that their public officials give an account of themselves. Watching a crime being committed is also a crime. Democracy has gone so far wrong that a beautiful example of mutual religious respect like Jodha Akbar had to be pulled out from the public's eye. India's future is in joepardy. Our politicians are the worst offenders, owning tainted money being just one aspect of thier wretched lives.

we have reached a point where the law breaker has the law keeper for protection. How else can you explain a line of government and police vehicles before and after every politicain, big or small? These fellows are scared of being popped off by angre citizens, so they use the state machinery to protect themselves. Imagine a PUBICL SERVANT, who rules his subjects. Our problem is deep rooted - sycophancy combined with unquesitoned loyalty - the perfect foil for corrupt politicians, corporate chiefs, judges, cops, district collectors, ration shop managers, railway officials - the list is endless.

Why don't we have a choice called NONE OF THE ABOVE beside the incumbents in our ballot papers. The only way to bring our political leaders to task is to tell them that we dont want any of the them to come back. We shoudl stop using terms such as 'return to power'. There ought to be no power without accountability. Democracy haas failed in India. When 40 lakh people live in slums in Bombay - the mecca of Indian finance markets, while Bomaby's politicians live in luqurious mansions, [I use Bombay as an example, nothing more sinister], we know that democracy has failed.

In order for us to change, we the public must stop the lionizing and feet touching of any public officials. We the people must refuse to pay bribes, and put the Right to Information Act as often as necessary. The quintessential Indian needs to stay proud and act responsibly.

Come on yar, u ve written a very strong case of plunder. Why talk about history , someone waging war 11 times and all, all these years and every plotical move is a war against common people by politicians to bring wealth to their coffers and illgotten wealth. I really do not know whether the Media cells of Congress / BJP/NCP/CPI/CPM/SP/RJD/DMK/ADMK/JD/JDS/LJP/RPI/AD/DMDK/ET.AL have it as active, if so let them also think, let them do some thing which even the worst of worst countires are doing, getting data out of these tax havens , banks and going to ge the ill gotten money back into the system, such that every body realises, particulary rahul , the benifits for poor, downtrodden, badly bruised farmers all are kept happy. Shame to our country.

This is a good project for our new PM-in-waiting Mr Rahul Gandhi.Instead of visiting all the poor areas, let him go after the Govt to get Indias money back, the money can be used for Rural Employment Guarantee scheme without taxing anyone.

A good from read from rediff. Even pakistan has taken interest in getting back information obout pakistans wealth in swiss banks, we ofcourse have "bigger" issues like fighting over languages to take care off. Wake up India, its our turn now. In a recent article on Auroville website, it reads "Nature found its it heights of spiritual development in India, it then left India to develop the mind in Greece, then develop the vital in Rome, then scientific thought in Europe, further scientific technology in the United states, the cycle is now complete she has to come back to India".

All this started with the congress and kept getting better over the years. Now like you said all are tainted and none is dudh ka dhula. NDA had a chance to nail Sonia politically but guess she had a few tricks up her sleeve to show to them with their own coin. I have been mnetioning this for some years now. Hence the bofors and cases like these will never come out or be solved. What we need is a shock treatment a complete flushing of all these politicians top to bottom. Wishful thinking isnt it.

Politicians of colours & shades have ensured so far that "AAM AADMI" remains effectively illiterate and not capable to think for themselves to evolve a strong vision of their motherland. It is not for nothing that no Government so far in INDIA has thought about introducing a compulsory education to 14 years of age (allegedly for shortage of approximately Rs 52000 crores!
So long AAM AADMI is kept busy in looking for their 2 square meals, the politicians can go on stacking money in TAX HAVEN of their choice.

Section 49-O of the Constitution of INDIA .
by tadphan on Apr 15, 2008 12:07 PM | Hide replies

Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as
per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling

booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding
election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone!

Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly
notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O".

Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a
candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has
received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be
cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the
candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest
the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on
them.
This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine
candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way,
of our whole political system... it is seemingly surprising why the
election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public....
Please spread this news to as many as you know... Seems to be a
wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India... show your power,
expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful
than voting... so don't miss your chance.
So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this

This is intentionally not spread across the public because no electional commssioner wants a re-polling. Actually re-polling wastes a lot of money and productive working time. Untill n unless there is any chance for good leader on re-polling , it cant bring you any good result.
