Food sold on roads
by kaza rao on Sep 01, 2007 03:37 PM  | Hide replies

Indians take pride in buying vegetables & food on the road and foot path. They go to show room to buy only shoes and hand bags. There is no value for food here...

very true..Indians are still on footpath. even for match-stick they run to mom n pop stores. After all most Indians are daily wagers, they cannot go to super market and buy once in a month.

I agree we need erforms.. but only to certain extend.. In South india and all other places there are community , who runs their family based on small vegetable shop or kind of tat.if goevt allows reliance and other big corps to enter that field..those families have to die only.. dont always think for s/w or MBA .. thinks for poor people also

Its India's misfortune that we are blessed wit such politicians who say some thing and do some thing else alltogether. List is endless, and now more and more idiots (read goons) are jumping into this. I feel the reasons for these are that the black money they earned thru running / threatning all sections of society will now dry up if people go to these stores to buy all items (which are tax paid and increase govt revenue).
To prevent their own families / acquaintances from starving our shoddy politicians retort to such fantastic idealism to fool around

If Reliance or other retail chains lower prices for consumers by cutting profits being earned by middlemen, it is an idea whose time has come and no one can stop it. Even if Left ruled states choose to be left out of this triumph of the customer, they can not stop internet based sales by certain 'net-stores', who will have no retail outlets, but only godowns in these Left ruled states. In short - YOU CANNOT WISH AWAY TECHNOLOGY !

i think thats rather silly..why should we so sanctimonious about something as trivial as shopping? i see no need to become a saint over this issue. i pay my taxes and thats enough. if i get stuff cheap at a retail outlet, and better quality at that, why shouldnt i buy there? i see no reason as to why i should by vegetables in dirty markets, when i can buy the same stuff at lower prices in a supermarket. no one is going to be wiped out. everyone finds a way to survive. and plus, these retail outlets employ a lot of ppl themselves. we should adopt change boldly, rather than remain in the past like frogs in wells.

Why reliance(Mukesh) routed international traffic through BSNL and looted Tax payers money? Why they paid fine to TRAI?.The fear for small traders are reliance is not an ethical company. They will kill the market initially and after some time they will trade like monopoly..This what the fear of public...

Did you fear the same when reliance came with the mobile revolution? What happened after that? Mobile became a common man's gadget. Thanks to reliance.
When changes comes, its natural that people who do not want to accept it will revolt against that. Look back at the history and you will find the same happening many a times.
When tractors were introduced, politicians (red ones) protested saying that this will kill those people who traditionally do cultivation. What happened? Whole Indian agriculture sector boomed due to the mechanization.
When computers came they opposed and started a nation wide (nation wide means those three states where they exists) strike against it. Destroyed thousands of computers. Whats the scenario now?
When mechanization of textile industry came they opposed and burnt down several power looms. Whats the scenario now? They themselves are running several.
They opposed vary badly when DD tied up with MTV and started broadcasting one hour of MTV songs saying that private players is bad for the country and people will get brainwashed. Now what, they themselves are running several private channels.
They were against special economic zones in the country saying that SEZs will force farmers out of there land. What now, they are shooting down poor farmers in favor of SEZs.
It will take some time for those politicians to think and understand. Maybe a year later you can see them starting up major retail brands and signing more nuclear deals with US.
