if JRD Tata and his successors had involved in manipulation of budgets, getting secret cabinet meeting minutes, tax evasion, smuggling of plants as scrap from abroad and stopped lot of charity works, they would have been No.1 today,

This is Kalyug, where only evil shines. People like the TATA's work with a certain ethics. Their businesses are made with a motive of giving something back to the society.

Anyways money is not all what matters in this world. You can have any $ no. attached to your name which can change anytime. But your character and your principles will always remain with you.

The house of Tata are the No 1 in following ethical way of business and spending considerable amount for the betterment of society.

They have set up a large number of institutions like IISC Banglore for excellence in the field of science & technology, Cancer hospitals,Hospital for family initiative, Community development and lot of money in research for social upliftment and spend huge sum to improve the basic infrastructure in villages and reachinmg in big way to those unlucky one who lost the things in natural calamities.

I salute them and respect them. The Tata group is a role model in many ways.

Most of the tata's shares are on the names of trusts and not with individuals. Only one person is having 16% share in tata sons. Ratan tata (chairman) is having 1% share in it. TATA's works for nation's empowerment, not for thier own empowerment.

Don't forget that TATAs also spent and still spending a considerable amount for improving our standards in sports, for creating infrastucture (esp. football, hockey & atheletics) what about other powerhouses? What have done so far apart from amassing wealth?

Ratan tata does not want to give the details of his income & assests because of fear of Income Tax Department.
He is the losser. Not happy with performance of Ambanis Brothers. Ambani Bro'thers doing a hard work day-night to get succeed in business. But Ratan was only happy with his two seater fighter plane & the surname of his father "TATA".
Another reason is that his mind is not focus on one particular field of business. He has wasted a lot of money in Tata Motor,TCS,TATA steel,Tata indicom etc. He does not have a guts to take challenge.

Amit Saxena, you can write bull shit. No body stops you.

But to correct what you have mentioned about Rata Tata, please note that even the money that is given to political parties depending upon their number of seas in parliament is fully accounted and has been made fully transparent and as permitted by Indian constitution.

They do not give money (underhand) as many others are doing to get favour when returned to power.

This is the difference.

Mr. Saxena...I come to know that u've got good guts. Do u know wht is a gut feeling. First try to know that...then say something about others. When u r trying to criticise someone first try understand what is the fact. Ratan Tata is not the owner of TATA group.

TATA Sons is the holding Company for most of the TATA entities. I think Pallonji Mistri is the largest shareholder of TATA Sons. Hence that is the reasons RAtan TATA is not there.

Portraying the RICH
by Elladevara Leela on Nov 15, 2007 10:06 AM

Media men (or women) have no other business than eulogizing / glorifying / projecting / highlighting the Rich, people with power, people with muscle, film and sports celebrities. I am witnessing that even many crimes committed by the so-called celebrities and the rich are portrayed in such a way that people in general are made to sympathize with such criminals and their criminal acts. I find media people are more mischievous than the law enforcing and law making %u2018criminals%u2019 of this country. This is the most pathetic story in this country. Always remember one thing. This country consists of 52% poor, 31% middle class, 15% upper middle class. But only the remaining 2 % people are accorded l the pages of News Papers, Magazines and electronic media bulletins. Big shame!!! Big Shame!!!

Crime & rich
by RagingBull on Nov 15, 2007 10:03 AM  | Hide replies

There is a proverb. Every rich man has crime behind him. Read recent news from Karnataka where Lokayuktha raided houses of thirteen police officials and RTO officials. The minimum worth of many of them was above Rs. 25 crores.

No one can become rich that too in India without committing a crime. However all these escape law because of the wealth they got.eRP8R

Going by the following, Goyal, whose worth is Rs 68.8 billion should have made the grade as the cutoff amount is only Rs 62.8 billion.

A net worth of $1.6 billion (Rs 62.8 billion) was the minimum needed to make the list, up from $790 million (Rs 31 billion) last year. That meant folks like longtime member Naresh Goyal, the founder of Jet Airways [Get Quote], dropped off our list, despite his fortune rising 55 per cent to $1.55 billion (Rs 68.8 billion

The news of these rich people is always in media. But what about common man. Now the salary of IT engineer or Marketing professional are growing so fast in India, all educated people will be a millionaire atleast soon.Still India is pity because of huge population. If we really want to be a rich and developed country, the population must be controlled.

Buddy...1 Million is Rs.10 Lakhs and so we already have a huge chunk of Millionnaires in India...But the article talks about billionnaires...I hope you know, how many zeroes are there in a billion.
As far as the population is concerned, today, it's an asset for the Indian economy and not a liability. India is one of the countries with a huge population of under 27 people (In majority)...A substantial portion of this population is employed/educated and are contributing to the growth of the economy...That's why Indian economy is growing at 8.5 to 9%. Its coz of this young crowd. If u consider countries like Japan, they don't have a big young population, which is a threat. In countries like Russia, Govt. pays money to parents if they have more than one child...It even gives allowances to raise children.
So, don't pass on comments without knowing the intricacies...U got to update urself.

Talking about Muslim population,it's a myth...If Muslim population was increasing at that pace, it wouldn't have been called a minority...It would have been a majority.Every nonsense happens, and Muslims are blamed by our over educated friends like Karthikeyan Sen.
Despite the release of reports on the pathatic economic conditions of Muslims (Its even worse than the so called SC/ST), Muslims are found to be the soft targets. You can't keep Muslims in dark for long and such comments would add to frustrations and anger among them. A country can't progress like that. We are in 21st Century.Change ur third class labour class mentality Karthikeyan Sen.

How about Poor in India?
by Anumakonda Jagadeesh on Nov 15, 2007 09:49 AM  | Hide replies

Always in these columns rich and only rich are focussed. How about the rural poor in India?About two thirds of India%u2019s more than 1 billion people live in rural areas, and almost 170 million of them are poor. Although many rural people are migrating to cities, three out of four of India%u2019s poor people live in the vast rural parts of the country. For more than 21 per cent of them, poverty is a chronic condition.A major cause of poverty among rural people in India is lack of access for both individuals and communities to productive assets and financial resources. High levels of illiteracy, inadequate health care and extremely limited access to social services are common among poor rural people. Micro enterprise development, which could generate income and enable them to improve their living conditions, has only recently become a focus of the government.Women in general are the most disadvantaged people in Indian society, though their status varies significantly according to their social and ethnic backgrounds. Women are particularly vulnerable to the spread of HIV/AIDS from urban to rural areas. In 2005 an estimated 5.7 million men, women and children in India were living with HIV/AIDS. Most of them are in the 15-49 age group and almost 40 per cent of them are women. Will the rich have the magnanimity to do something for the poor especially rural poor?

Why should we depend on rich? We can work hard sincerely and come up. My father, a low level Government servant, with 10 children had worked hard, brought them up properly. All the children had worked hard in spite of not able to have proper education, but today all of them settled in life reasonably. The ten children are owning nearly 15 apartments in Chennai - neither the Government, nor the rich helped. It is purely their faith in God and hard work. I had started with Rs.15 per month salary in 1974, and today I have nearly Rs.10 million. LET US EDUCATE THE POOR TO WORK HARD, WITH AN AIM OF BECOMING CROREPATHI. ALL OF THEM CAN DO THAT. IT NEEDS SOME SACRIFICES, BUT CAN BE ACHIEVED.

The greatest 'magnanimity' you can show to a poor person is to educate him/her and give a job. The rest will fall in place.

The society does not want charity. Indians are not beggers.

Look we have two set of people in society. People who do not take care of their old mother and treat them so badly that it becomes a news in Television.

On the otherhand, the large segment of society takes good care of their old aged parents and gives them the best possible care.

The Ambani,s and most of the other business house are like the first catagory when compared to their service to their motherland. A few exceptions are there and Tata's are the shining example.
