From The Tribune; October 15, 2007

India may have the second fastest growing economy in the world but it still has a long way to go in eradicating hunger where it is ranked at the 94th position behind neighbouring China and Pakistan, a global report has said.
According to the latest Global Hunger Index 2007 from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), although India has improved its score to 25.03 on the index compared to 33.73 in 1990, it is lagging behind China and Pakistan ranked at the 47th and 88th positions, out of the listed 118 countries.

I am not proud for richest indian but one can think that our 80% population's daily income is Rs. 20 per day isnt this shame for our nation.
In our nation only few industrialist and politicians are richest.

Just to add to your stats, a study shows that 80% of India's total worth is with just 100 business families???

That means the remaining 20% is shared by the rest of the population, that unfortunately is about 100 crore people!!!

Still we say Incedible India is going through a historic economic boomtime!!

The hard reality is that an average citizen or the people living below poorty line are damn affected or care about the surges in the stock exchange!!

Mera Bharat Mahaan!!

The policy of the govt is wrong. This govt is makings the rich richer and the poor poorer. There is a nexes between the politicians and these few rich people. Beacause of this reason only the stock market is booming. Within one day 1000 points are gaining. How it is possible The govt is fooling everybody. When ever the present govt comes they creates lots of problem for the middle class and the poor. They think about only big guns like ambanies, because they give lots of money to them as bribe. Only god can save this country.

China v/s India
by Yogesh Maroli on Nov 15, 2007 10:42 AM  | Hide replies

This article clearly mentions that our 4 richest are worth more than the Chinese 40's. This clearly shows that money and the booming economy is getting concentrated in the hands of the 2% elites.
I should appreciate the way the economics is designed in CHINA where is the economy is twice as strong as ours, but the distribution of wealth is not concentrated in the hands of few.

I feel this is just because of the CHINA's Top to bottom approach for economic development, where the Govt. has taken intiatives rather than the Business houses.

INDIAN economy and share market is totally driven by the BIG BUSINESS HOUSES.

The Market can fall on its face even if Mukesh Ambani gets a Heart Attack.

good for these guys though i dont know if mittal is an indian. also, we should remember that a staggering percentage of people in this country earn Rs 20 per day per person. Its a crying shame that one in three children is a laborer whose childhood is gone, his grandparents believed in the promises nehru and his cronies made and today india's children are found begging and wiping cars.

in small and big towns, so many people grow rich by siphoning money, taking bribes, diverting funds. this is not a new thing this malaise was there with our grandparents and their parents. this is the reason why a handful of british ruled us and churchill was spot-on when he said that if india is given freedom it will be ruled by men of straw and it will go to the dogs. cant believe how true that ha become.

so let us celebrate the success of these guys but at the same time let us strive for an india with character and pray that we become a great nation.

These three young Indians have shown to the world that India is growing as a big economic power.

If you look at the figures of how much they have spent to impart education to the real poor and needy , on hospital for poor, home for the homeless, shelter for elderly people and overall on the community development , you will feel ashamed.

Anil and Mukesh have reached this level by using India's resources (material, men and money) but have not returned to society anything that can bring joys on their face.

These rich are extremely poor at heart.Their wealth smells like a rotten potato. God bless them.

I fully agree - ambanis, mittals, etc. all these millionaries will never lift their finger to help the poor and even if they give employment in their companies, salaries will be a pittance, so one has to remember that this is the way they became millionaires - these types make u sick & want to puke..... on the other hand look at tata's, they have a human side to them & even those employed in tata's earn much more than all these mittals, reliance etc.

Very true Santosh. Look at the rest of the worlds, and big industrialists were philanthropists too (a handsome no) but in India, except the TATAs, nobody else NO BODY ELSE cared about the society, research, education, and other infrastructure development. It should have been a moral responsibility too, but these bania's would never care. TATAs established TIFR, IISC, TERI, etc to name a few. Recently Lakshmi Mittal praised Ratan Tata in a speach about the infrastructure development at jamshedpore, about providing education and creating healthcare facilities, and shame to say that the same guy spent $78 millions on his kid's wedding. They talk big, praise someone but never come forward. What an irony!!

Agreed, BUt can any one tell honestly that out of his total earning, how much you spend for the development of society or helping poor or donating to education society or help age etc.....

Honestly speaking we will feel ashamed of our self and surly find the reason for not doing so..

Dear friend, we all are human being and have tendencey to criticise others or find fault in them.

As a Indian if we start thinking and behaving in the way what our friend had said then our country will be the best and powerfull country in the world. Remember we have almost all the resources in the world right form brin to coal..

Do you know how much they and their companies contribute by way of direct and indirect taxes?
Its the job of the government to take care of the social infrastructure.Schools, Hospitals, roads,Defence, village and city development. How efficient is the government doing this. All the taxpayers money is available for that. They do nothing, sombody manufactures, sells, earns through his/her efforts and government gets taxes.
Does India have social security as in USA, Europe, Australis etc.
Dont crib about industrialists., they are doing their job quite well. Its the government which is continuously failing the trust of its people.

Come on, think a little - or is that too much to ask?
The money they made is their own. Who are you to comment on what they should do with it?

You may not realize that it is their 'profit-making attitude' that created lakhs of jobs all over India.
It's the government's job to look after social needs - not an individual's.

Portraying the Rich (Corrected version)
by Elladevara Leela on Nov 15, 2007 10:13 AM

Media men (or women) have no other business than eulogizing / glorifying / projecting / highlighting the Rich, people with power, people with muscle, film and sports celebrities. I am witnessing that even many crimes committed by the so-called celebrities and the rich are portrayed in such a way that people in general are made to sympathize with such criminals and their criminal acts. I find media people are more mischievous than the law enforcing and law making CRIMINALS of this country. This is the most pathetic story. Always remember one thing. This country consists of 52% poor, 31% middle class, 15% upper middle class. But only the remaining 2 % people are accorded l the pages of News Papers, Magazines and electronic media bulletins. Big shame!!! Big Shame!!!
