Why government keeps indians poor
by vijendra s on Apr 01, 2007 05:51 PM  | Hide replies

Sir
This CA has hit the nail.Asper malthusian theory the population increases 3 times the food production, hence we are always poor. Our own ex PM who boasts Son of the soil is crook no.i.(Devegowda) you can add vpsingh also. What is required is control population.give farmers the power not atnight 2-3 clock somwhere between 11 to 2 .at the same time ensure this regularly at least he pump ground water.Avoid water intensive crops when there is no water they can grow alternative crops. But who bothers .Officers who are really concerned are kicked out the moment they start functioning.

WOW, citing an Economics 'Theory' that was discarded by Economists 200 years ago to verify the claims of an economics-illiterate Accountant.

And we wonder why bad economic policies survive in India.

The policy makers, netas and urban middle class are to blame. They have created a vicious nexus which works like crabs, so no-one can ever change or achieve anything.

Why the government keeps Indians poor
by Chris on Apr 01, 2007 05:42 PM

Brilliant article that hits the nail on the head. Our bureaucrats and politicians are lacking in both vision and integrity. This combination has disempowered people and promoted vested interests in our country. Until the farmers are able to empower themselves by getting together under their own banner and voting out all the politicians in their constituencies as well as administering a few well placed kicks to the bureaucrats, this country will never see real progress for the masses.

1984?
by anshul bhardwaj on Apr 01, 2007 05:26 PM

it seems the writer is inspired by George Orwell's epic, 1984!!!

...and i disagree with any agrument that says, "WE" elect governments....
NO...what we choose doesnot always happen...
--all those, for whom the government does not matter, elect the government

--and those who do not vote, actually do not need the government!

--THE PROLES ALWAYS CONTINUE TO BE PROLES, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE GOVERNMENT..

--I CHALLANGE IF WE GO THE THE DATA OF PRE-INDEPENDENCE, WE WILL FIND THE SAME net per capita food availability, THE TERMINOLOGY USED BY THE WRITER.

BUT...but there is a difference!!
earlier 2% Britishers sucked our blood...
now 2% INDIANS(our fellow brothers!!) do that...
and..now we have a chance(a wafer slim chance) to be in that league of 2% indians...

....remember, the proles are always remain the proles! GOVERNMENTS dont matter...

:)

WHY TO BLAME GOVERNMENT
by SLee on Apr 01, 2007 04:39 PM

Sir, i would like to know why we always blame government when we are the people who are making them win during elections. So it is us who is to be blamed. When a any political member fills his canditure for elections we people feel pround without taking into consideration whether he is going to fullfill his own desires after being elected or he will take care of the people who are electing him. If we have the right to vote then we should have the right to choose a right member from the society and convince him to stand for election and make him Win. Then only we can build a Healthy nation and society. We have to start this from our own house, neighbour, society, city and provience and so on. STAND AND LETS START TODAY. VOTE THOSE WHO REALLY DESERVES AND WHO HAS COME FORWARD TO DO GOOD FOR THE SOCIETY AND COUNTRY. You cannot build a good nation unless you build a healthy society and surroundings. Punish the people who come in the way. WE ALL HAVE TO STAND TOGETHER INSTEAD OF LOOKING HERE AND THERE THAT WHO WILL START AND WHO WILL COME FORWARD FIRST.

Why the Government Keeps India Poor?
by Bhuvana Ramanathan Shankar on Mar 30, 2007 02:14 AM  | Hide replies

Majority of the Politicians in India neither have the ability to provide responsible leadership nor the integrity to hold the power they weild. And the poor continue to elect such people. These politicians can thrive only if the people electing then are poor and uneducated. Hence, there is a clear vested interest to keep majority of the people in India poor. Unfortunately, the poor are in rural areas - which the government does not give a damn. It is a vicious circle. While Indira Gandhi was committed to 'Removing Poverty', for all other politicians it was only Political Rhetoric. Look at the types like Narendra Modi, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh, Deve Gowda, etc. Do you really think these policians really care for 'Poor People'. They care more for Crooks and criminals than poor and rural folks.

Please add other crooks to your list also. They are karunanidhi, pawar, ysr reddy, marans, mandal singh, manmohan, etc who are busy in building Vote Bank by "Divide and Rule" ploicy.
They have no time to focuss on poor farmers, landless wage earners.

Why dont you vote? Why do you vote against a particular community? Why do you not check your own collar to see if it is plain white or what? EVERY INDIAN IF GIVEN A CHANCE WILL CHEAT TO MAKE SOMETHING EXTRA. That is not what I say, its what the world says. It doesnt reflect a particular group of people. Its "us", no one else. Indians have to forego the crab mentality to progress. Whatevers happening at the moment is just an eyewash. The real money is in the pocket of a chosen few. If buying things on credit cards and bank loans make us happy, wait till we get the bill. I bet the number of people having heart troubles is going to double in the next 2 years. But first of all we should all stop robbing the country individually, pay taxes regularly, get a receipt for each purchase (whether it is from R Mall or local kirana shop), learn to queue, and basically be a little more truthful atleast to ones own self.

Hinduism is the root of all evil in India.
by No sarcasm or hypocrisy please on Mar 28, 2007 05:15 PM  | Hide replies

1. It explicitly creates hierarchy among Indians which is against Article 14 ie Right to Equality.
2. Parents covertly preach their children to coerce other children as per the above hierarchies.

I also deplore any other religion that does this.

What does the article on food grain security have to do with Hinduism evil? It is irrelevant and abusive. But the moderators have disabled the abuse button, which shows their depravity. The message is not even related to the article! Still it is protected by the moderators!! There is something rotten in rediff editorial room. There is consistent promotion and protection of anti-Hindu propaganda.

Dear Rediff, you can go screw yourself for letting this absolute trash persist. It is offtopic and is a blatant lie. Hinduism does not force hierarchy. The quota system does. If egalitarian democracy is allowed to take root, it will wash away all the hierarchies. Put stern population control measures and you would have taken care of a lot of maladies.
