Being rich means, they must help some one
automatically!!!
Ask this billionaires to sit idle, they won't
do. Being this level as billionaire already
means they might have given employment to
at least a couple of thousands!!!
Let us congradulate them & give more and more
opportunities to our people & to the world!!!

Give more employment oppurtunities
by Venkat Reddy on Mar 09, 2007 07:58 PM  | Hide replies

Its nice to see so many Indians in the list but whats new. Why dont they increase employment oppurtunities to every potential unemployed youth? .My friend in PUNE, a MBA POST GRAD is running around his shoes for a position in one of these industries but they dont care .He has merit, calibre and bookmark percentages in his studies.
But they need recommendation,bribe and everything.Its not in the notice of higher officials
Thats the reason our country is struggling to come out from the word POVERTY.

MBA=Master in Businesss Mgmt.

In Hindi...
Master=Guru
Business=Baniya Giri etc.

Your fried is a joker not an MBA. Why not start his own biz, he's got all plus MBA? Try to be like Tata, Tanti Birla and then you might be heard. Else, who cares re. your friend. One last thing, what have you done for him lately...your friend not mine!

The rich are rich and getting richer,
by samson lawrence on Mar 09, 2007 06:15 PM

but why should there be poverty at all. I dont care a fig how much money anyone has, lucky guys enjoy yourselves. How do we create an economy where money goes round and everyone is happy. What happens mostly is money goes one way and never comes back again.

What does it have anything with the poor!
by Krishna on Mar 09, 2007 06:04 PM

Okay. so 36 people are supe rich. so what? what difference is it going to make for the poor in india? agreed, there are good number of people from that list who do lot of social service. Thats more important than being one of the richest in the world. I salute to only those guys who earned those money in a honest and ethical manner and who are doing social service. I just don't give a damn to others!

With estate tax this list will be much lower
by Jay Krishnan on Mar 09, 2007 05:13 PM  | Hide replies

India does not have estate tax(deatch tax). Money is passed on to sones , grand sons etc. So The super rich will remain rich all the times.

That is not the case with developed countries. At least I can say Ambanies are not real billion club.(I don't know about others). Their father made the money which was passed on to them.

Unless there is going to be death tax money is not going to be circulated and real progress is going to be made. That is for sure. Few families are going to control the wealth

Please include our own addendum with politicians like Sonia Gandhi, Amar Singh, Lallu Prasad Yadav, Y.S.Rajashekar Reddy, N. Chandrababu Naidu and Ramoji Rao. I am sure they have much more than 4500 crores of rupees, though undeclared.

I say by every means.

Another Hypocrisy in our country, i want my dear beloved people who r fooled by others to understand.. Everyone from morning to night wants to earn money and are trying to do so. But they will contradict that money is wrong and rich people are bad.. How will u live with such contradictions! u will only be confused and leave every opportunity u get to earn money and the guy who does not care about all this will inevitably get it.. I dont whant people to be confused.. Please earn money,dont be fooled by all these philosophies, this society is built on money, its like fish in water. All the theories are out dated, Living a simple life like the ancients advised us is not possible, there is no land that u can farm these days without money and there is no forests without an entry fee.. Everything u need money.. Dont contradict urself
earn money and appricate those who r earning more.. This is the only way we will have a great India.. USA and Europe didnt become rich by Charity of the Church.. It was because of lust for money.. if u dont agree please look at the TV and their style of living, they have no regrets... If u say r they happy with all that money they must be just as happy as u or may be more. ITS BETTER TO HAVE LOADS OF MONEY AND BE MISERABLE THAN HAVE NONE AND BE MISERABLE..

Dear Mr. Karthik,
It is better to lead a life of simplicity and contentment than lead a life with all riches and a bare soul! Want to see some real life examples - Britney Spears, Michael jackson, Bjon Borg, list is endless. Also all the money in the world could not save Mr. Rasik Meswani (Key man of Reliance!) Mr. Aditya Birla, Mr. Chiman Patel (CM of Gujarat who reportedly had tons of money), Murosoli Maran (Father of Dayanidhi Maran - Minister in UPA. Money is important in life, but it is only a mean and not an end!

Natraj.. All I am saying is, havent you seen poor people miserable,commit suicide,etc.., Rich man is you and the poor man is you too, meaning not just like you more than that, but still you see if you have money your more comfortable and can live a more secure life... All I am saying is I am not condeming the people who earn money and I dont see anything different with a guy who
doesnt earn also.. So that y i said ITS BETTER TO HAVE LOADS OF MONEY AND BE MISERABLE THAN HAVE NONE AND BE MISERABLE..

I am sure that each and every one of these rich people realise the fact that its the sweat and blood of each of their employees that has made these billions for them, thats why they are there on the list.

A person who cant keep their employees happy cant go a long way to reach the top.

My point is dont feel shy of money...Rich people are a blessing and the one who says he is working for the poor is a curse...What makes u people think that money and wealth are bad, remove that from ur head.. Money is good.. If he treats u bad then atleast u have a job.. and if u dont like it do what u like..

Yah and who r u stamping on without ur knowledge only god knows.. Dont blame the guy with money, its only because of him that atleast ur sweat and blood is worth anything to shed first of all, otherwise it would be shead for nothing.. You dont need to thank him, atleast know thats how things work..

i think you need to grow up ...

none forced you to work for any of these. if you have trouble reconciling the fact that you work for one of these guys, quit your job and start a business where you treat your employees, the same way you want these guys to treat you.

till then, you sound like a whining loser!

Do the Rich Indiands help the very poor
by Preeti Vikram on Mar 09, 2007 03:20 PM  | Hide replies

It is nice to hear that there 36 indinas with a combined wealth of USD 191.00 billions. I wonder if any of these rich indians are doing anything for the really poor and downtrodden class of the indian society.30% of Indians live below poverty line.I have seen rich people in US starting foundations like Rockfeller foundation, Clinton foundation, Bill Gates foundation, George Soros foundation,Ford foundation.In fact Bill gates, Clinton and George foundation are very active in Africa helping fight the Aids epidemic, poverty and other health care problems.I have not heard of any rich indian doing so.

Imagine what all these rich indians with a wealth of USD 191.00 billions can do for the poor. God has given them an opportunity and they should not lose this opportunity.

By the way, Mr.Ratan Tata's name is not there. very surprising. He is more richer than Azim Premji and Narayan murthy and just behind the Ambani's.

Ms. Preeti
While bulk of the chairty funds quoted by you use up money for their executive travel and over heads, the works done by most of the indian business houses are low key and low profile! In the west Charity work is also to get the media limelight and to ward off the negative publicity on the core activity of the charity giver! Last year deloitte in USA paid millions in damages for failing to detect large scale frauds in some of major charity works you mentioned! Further the indian guys listed are already contributing by giving employment, creating infrastructure and paying taxes! They dared to dream and took the risk and what they have now is their own.
By the way the whole thing about richest in the world is a myth! The moment market comes to know about bill gates / mukesh ambani / premji selling their holdings, the fortune figures will melt faster than a ice cube on a hot plate!

[ with malice to wards none and good wishes to all around!]

Preetie - Most of the 36 (if not all) have huge private trusts that fund social and educational causes. There might not be enough place for me to list each person's contribution - but it might be a good idea for Rediff to do some research and publish an article on the same

Ratan Tata is not on the list because he is not a billionaire. He owns very little of Tata Sons. Mr. Mistry (listed in Forbers Billionaire) is the largest shareholder of Tata Sons - the holding company of Tata Group of companies.

Before any one answering this question you should question yourself, how many times you have helped others. It need not be millions. It can even be a rupee.

Ujwal,

I have in my own way done some charity work and I need not go into this in detail because it is my personal life.I contribute every year for a Home for the aged and also for Deaf and dumb home.

The rich are having the means to help the poor and they should do something.Understand this before you shoot off your big mouth.
