India is developing now as a result of rapid industrilisation and flow of foriegn investment. Now with these reservations even this will slow down and the progress of country stops.
Resevations should be based on economic backwardness and not on caste.

There should be no reservation at all, instead federal funding for education and medical and welfare for economically weaker people. Reservation in older times for Brahmin and reservation in modern times for OBC, SC, ST is same. Mayawati is Gundi number one, who is using upper caste BSP members to attract vote bank, it's shame that BJP has done nothing to oppose this, which is the reason of it's downfall.

In my belief ....first of all there should be no reservation for any one. If there is any that shld be strictly on basis of economic backwardness.

by Navin Nigam on Aug 10, 2007 10:58 PM  | Hide replies

Mayawati must understand that any which way noone is coming to UP for setting up business and after this announcement they will not look into the state ever.
I have decided to not to go back to UP in my lifetime though I am from UP.
What a shame!

QandA
So what's the solution?
by QandA on Aug 10, 2007 10:54 PM  | Hide replies

I fully support Anti-Reservation policies, but I wanted the discussion to stear to the alternative.. Please criticize but also suggest an alternative... I want to hear all ideas 'Cos this reservation is not going to go away until village people decides so. They are the people who control democracy and hence any policy in India. The city people are just stand by watchers. So I want to know how will one convince the villagers not to be Quota specific ??

How can you expect villagers to decide on this stupid issue, they are fickle minded and mute spectators, they are struggling for their livelyhood. It's the people who are settled abroad or the industry captains that have to make the change by just boycotting these OBC/SC/ST leaders in all functions and forums.

File a case agianst reservation in Supreme court. I will follow you. Let all others do this. Let there be only Economicaly Backward, Middle and Upper classes and the Govt policies should be based on this. No more caste SC/SC/BT.

Reservation for Cricket
by singh pratap on Aug 10, 2007 10:52 PM

Have reservation in cricket. Ill say wonderful. the player has to make 50 runs and it will be declared as century. The bowlers have to bowl 3 bowls a over. the filders can collect the bowl beyond boundary the batsman will get only two runs. the batsman will get two chanc for batting. He has to run half the pitch for scouring one run. the umpire will not be required to lift the finger, he can lift the finger half way to declare the batsman out. interesting cricket of the 21st century . enjoy. ha .ha

What it means!!!
by Rabindra Mishra on Aug 10, 2007 10:51 PM

She is simply brilliant in realpolitik. In any industry, there is a minimum of 30% of the total employee are from these so called backward castes (I would say people with backward mentality). Mind it is not 30%. It is actually 20%. Considering 10% are reserved for economically backward section.

Unless, the law takes the reservation for all the hierarchy of a company, the company won't mind, as the majority of the labor work force will fall under this category. But this could be just the beginning and the law could take its way to increase the quota and etc.

In that case, Gujrat among the western states and Haryana as the northern state would be benefited.

Anyway, the most affected place would be Noida and the industrial base could move to the west of Delhi aka, Gurgaon.

UP is just to crumble on its own weight (Population, Lawlessness, illiteracy etc). Good to see this situation. So that it could be an case study for the rest of the states for choosing the best governance.

She is more myopic than the owl in the broad light. Better to expect nothing.
