Innovations for future
by Prasanna kumar on Aug 20, 2004 09:48 AM

I like to add the subject about the way we look at success rate as individual. Every individual should take inspiration from the examples and should target individual achievements to the national growth. If it demands a little compromise in amy front its worth doing as it's the time to do it. Also a drive by govt. to focus on supporting innovations and increase from the existing funding limitations and to promote them is the right approach to achieve this. The govt can increase funding worthy projects and the individuals for which a capital can be raised from the industrial segment to promote consumer oriented outset to the innovations (We all know an innovation without an application is good for nothing).

Outlook table is just rubbish
by Raveendran on Aug 18, 2004 02:27 PM

Dear Dr. Banerjee,
Thanks for writing the article. It was very good. I just wanted to point out that the Outlook table on Indian innovations that you have reproduced in part II is just rubbish. A. K. Sood is not the inventor of carbon nanotubes (it is Ijima of Japan). Also, the Indian groups mentioned are not the founders of string theory. They are all just working in an area started by others (westerners). I do not know about the other innovations mentioned there, but they are also likely to be such exaggerations by ignorant journalists.
Best wishes
Ravi

Can Indians innovate big time?
by Kiran B on Aug 15, 2004 07:37 PM

India can definitely produce billion-dollar innovations soon. after seeing the success (not innovations) in IT, ITES and Pharma, most Indians (except the usual pessimists) feels that we could do something.

Where do we lack?
by Rajat Luthra on Aug 15, 2004 01:42 AM

The large structures of bureaucracy in India play a major role in overshadowing the budding talents in our country.

Those who sit high on the management tree are good rulers but not good leaders.

We engineers have to run for our bread first and its only after that when we start thinking about our Nation.

The data clearly shows that we are no way less than anyone in this world.

All we need to do is...
Engineers: Work Hard and take our Job seriously.
Manages: Never let the efforts of your team/group unrecognized. Work for them. A manager is nothing but a decisive assistant to his team.

Government: Should be nimble enough to bend itself for the melioration of our Nation.

I feel its time to give up the words.. Me, I, My, Myself. and start working with words like.. Us, We , Our, All.

We are more than capable, but we lack the passion and the zeal to reach the summit.

Yes, indeed............who questions it??
by Pallavi on Aug 13, 2004 11:57 AM

Yes, indeed Indians can innovate big time...I wonder that how come this question has come into our minds when we all have witnessed the India succeding everywhere be it Technology, R&D, medicine, culture and what not!!

We may not forget the fact that many of the big time inventions and discoveries have their roots in India. Yes, I accept this fact the these days we have lost behind our roots but that doesnt mean that the world start putting question marks on our great minds. Everybody is well aware that the most ancient knowledge emerged from India and is far ahead from any new findings and technology. we have alwayz been the source of cognition and will always be.......!!! and let the history make a note of it.
