Can Indians Innovate big time?
by Shyam Nihalani on Aug 10, 2004 04:36 PM

The emphasis in this article is on product innovation only.

Today the world is ruled by Marketing companies who manage their money well. They attract all the brains.
We need market innovators.

We always had thought innovaters like Gautam Buddha,Mahatma Gandhi,et all but who wants them today.

We must stop looking at consumerism as the be all and end all. That only leads to waste of resources.

Innovator - where are they heading
by Gaurav Mathur on Aug 10, 2004 03:50 PM

( Arindam Banerji is a scientist and an entrepreneur in the Silicon Valley )------ WHY ?? Silicon Valley ?

Its nice to see a list of innovators and innovative products listed. Whta we need to do is trace these enterpruners and track their growth prospect.

Let us not let them leave for greener pastures.Give them what they lack in India itself.

Can India Innovate big time?
by Shishir Kumar Yadav on Aug 10, 2004 03:14 PM

The data shown regarding the upliftment of indian economy, R&D and technological progress is impressive but we should not forget that it's just a drop in ocean, compared to Americans. the main bar for the lagging behind of india is lower government interest and fund allocation to the research projects and a person is not appreciated farely for his innovative work, the best example of that is the case with Abhas Mitra, who challenged the theory of exsistence of Black Hole given by renowned scientist Stephen Hawkins. Just because he contradicted Stephen's theory he had been demoted, and boycotted by his collegues and institute.
so the government, and also the people should give a thought to this problem and appreciate the innovations and make it's path congenial not difficult.

Here its a struggle for survival. So its all about safe bet rather then innovation. Thats why most of the indian IT companies are service providers. This should b considred first before anything.

Conducive System
by Niraj Londhe on Aug 10, 2004 02:30 PM

Well researched article. What is missing the rational behind non-cognitive thinking in Indian youngsters. Does having brain drain, mean we are short of brain in India ? Is the divide betweeen "brilliant" brains and "un-drainable" brain really that much ? The point is, we have failed at being innovative in introducing a intuitive education system. We have caused the GAP between brains to increase by following the same old education system. Unless it is reformed, nothing will get invented and we will continue to work as followers of inovators.
