CAN INDIANS INVENT?
by Bhagwat Goel on Aug 11, 2004 06:27 AM

Indians invent and innovate and even now such innovations remain in closets because our industrialists are either short sighted or cannot value these or want for free. THAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM.

Bhagwat Goel.

Can Indian innovate?
by Partho on Aug 11, 2004 04:06 AM

Indian are as good as any one when it comes to innovation, but the incentives in follwing such a breakthroughs are poor and unrecognised. Partly due to "Colonial mantality"-the choise for imported technology or product is predominant in the genes. Blames are to the Governments and its policies, it work hard to protect the local market from WTO rules, but hardly does enough to protect its innovations !!
Thanks

well ideas/innovations/inventions .... these things happen when people are given a chance to think on their own and have abundant resources to support such ideas. India is plaguing with 100's of other problems and making billion dollar inventions is not the greatest of priority of the government.

Instead ideas which dont cost much but then also effect our rural economy are the ones which are of extreme importance ... although they wont generate billionaires or stock market riches... but will surely effect a lot of lives.

regards,
Sumit.

I feel that one of all lacking in india is its co-operation between universities and industries.in usa the industries and universities have collaboratons.these help in physical trials and also help the universities in developing the systems and products better.

second i would say is that the lack of co-operation between the NRIs and industries. Like in China the NRCs have better co-operation between the chinese people and its NRCs.

thrid is the lack of love for research and its innovations.

thankyou.

Can Indians Innovate big time?
by harish on Aug 10, 2004 10:41 PM

Changes do not occur in days! It takes decades or even centuries for change to occur. Indians are born innovators, see how we are going to transform the world in the coming decade.

Do not compare innovations of America and India. Americans started to innovate 200 years after their independece, We are just 55 years and already inventing.

Inventions do not mean, only material goods. We have Invented the number system, the zero, geometry, trigonomentry, the perfect language called "Sanskrit", etc....

Sir,
I am overwhelmed by the very subject,Ive few things to share with u all
for the past so many years many NRI s are the key force behind many innovations but for their limitaions
the name and fame is grabbed by the intelligent(market)foreign counterparts, only few sucess stories like Discoveries of Dr.Nayudamma ,Bose corporation etc stand apart.Even to day one of my close friend who is a master in new drug discovery has to submit to US enterprenuer who had invested millions totally based on our indian freinds discovery,if every things oes right it will be the US persons name will be the history and not our indians .

Interesting article for reading and very informative. No doubt we are doing excellent research. But what is sad is the fact that our research has not been socially or economically useful.( Not considering defence research) Even about Pharma products I do not know a single compound that has been developed through our own R&D and is globally accepted. All that I can agree is Pharmaceutical Companies in India like Dr.Reddy's lab,Helthon to name a few are manufacturing quality drugs based on know-how developed elsewhere.

Looking forward for further innovations

Very interesting article but personally I feel that this is too short an explaination for the power that India has possessed in the field of innovations since thousand of years.I hope that the brainpower of India will multiply these numbers and soon become as the manufacturing hub of innovations.
