Do you know the logic behind these superstitions?
by PASUPULETI SRINIVASARAO on Dec 17, 2015 12:53 PM

Sir, certain things are for certain actions and are to be followed for once own welfare.Age old traditions are for hygenic, safety, heath condition of females. This is not superstition. Why wont one eat during in toilet room, why one wont drink water during urinating. Because it is impure. One will come out and after disposal of impurities then only take food or water. Same illustration for similar type of actions. In olden days bacteria is there now also bacteria abundant, diseases are bulk, multiplied with new diseases, so after attending funeral to wash away germs/bacteria/invisible gases came out from dead body one has to bath and clean house. It is upto once own way of thinking which is good which is not good, but we may not determine/stamp it as superstition of olden days or to do whateveryway in modern world.-Hope my dear friend your article is not agreed by me. -P.S.Rao

In fact our philosophy of living has been very scientific/logical and has been on the basis of long long experience and research by the so called Rishis/Munis. It appears that to ensure that public at large (especially ignorants) follow the logical rules, these were sometimes associated with superstitions. Not only in India but in other so called the ethnic groups (the ignorant modern society call them ethnic)also, some such practices exist to which the modern society call them uneducated and superstitious.

to earn money & TRP the press and nosey channels will go to all lengths including invading privacy. Leave it to the people. As long as it is not bothering the law, its just another habit. If there wre to be a law to sue those who are pretending to expose these superstitions and in effect hounding the people with whipped up public opinion, these needless dramas will stop. The gravity of the "Superstition" is best left to the public amongst them and the law of the land. Going by the screaming exposes, it appears that the people in the channesl and press are completely bereft of any superstition and are agnostic and atheists.

SUPERSTITIONS???
by Anil Goel on Dec 17, 2015 12:29 PM  | Hide replies

To the self-proclaimed progressives (read leftists), everything Hindu means superstition only. Why? Because of their own dogma only...As you yourself have proved, all of the above things had solid scientific reasoning behind them. Still you give the heading '...these superstitions?'. These are Hindus' beliefs, based on scintific principles long lost, partly due to the pressure of attacks on our culture and beliefs from outside, partly due to the burning of our books, and partly due to loss of our old religious books to the Europeans and Americans during the period of India's colonial subjugation. If we read those books and translate them into Hindi and English, new facts will come out about India's scientific achievements. (Please do not argue that I am negating the whole scientific achievements of other cultures...I have not said that...).

A lady is supposed to be unclean when she is in her periods. A temple is supposed to be clean. Even if small infants urinate a temple premises, the temple is supposed to be cleaned. Hence to keep the temple premises clean, ladies who had their periods were not allowed to go in. This is no superstition.

We must have observed people applying turmeric powder on forehead, especially in Maharashtra. mainly because of its immunity boosting and anti-oxidant properties. It can repair the damage such as cuts & wounds on the body..
