Sanskrit Vs German
by Bharath on Nov 22, 2014 04:44 AM

Its pity that one of out 1lakh used german in some german visit helped them saying hello, how are you, they want to be part of school curriculum. there are bunch of foreign language training institutes they can choose from. Most of the schools offer it has additional or hobby subject. Contrary, Sanskrit is Indian language pursued across all major universities in the world starting from MIT, Harvard. Pity bunch ppl in India still not realize the importance of such elaborate language.

German!
by Rajiva Kumar on Nov 21, 2014 03:06 PM  | Hide replies

I started learning German through books, cds and online courses. found a lot of material to read / listen. The best things through this proses are : 1. It increased my memory and thinking. 2. It helped me a lot to understand the hidden beauty of my mother tongue Hindi i.e. how beautifully we use the same word as noun and verb together in the same sentence - 'KHANA KHANA HAI ?" At the age of 58 it is a wonderful experience , learning a new language. I was in Germany last june and it helped me a lot. Pity we are going back to 'Sanskrit' - to dark age.

Dear Sir, pl note sanskrit is very beautiful language . if really interest read alleast \" kumarasambhava\" of Kalidas. But now every body want money than culture .So it\'s importance is diminished and our secular people are very much interested for this also. Also know that modern sanskrit is enriched by German\'s only. The debate between German and Sanskrit for political purpose and learn Gernman is always good. In Mahabhartha in yakshaprsan Udishitra answer that -language real friend in a freign land

Rajiva and Gopala, I address to both of you. In the context of current discussion going on, the problem is whether you give Sanskrit education to class 6-8 children or not. Nobody ever said German is bad. But in any country, its classic language is always given preference over a foreign language. Latin and Greek are two of the examples. By allowing students Sanskrit, nobody is taking away right of learning German, for which there are ample opportunities available, at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, JNU, Delhi University and so many other universities, Max Mullar Bhawan etc. etc. As far as Sanskrit is concerned, Gopala, I request you to go beyond Kalidas and Kumarsambhav. We have Brihad Vimanshastra written by Maharshi Bhardwaz, on which research was done by modern scientists in Bangalore. This book is part of the Tantra shastra. These are ancient technical books, and there are thousands of them, rotting in the private collections of the Europeans, and lying in so many European and Indian libraries. Better make it a language of technology, engineering also alongwith beauty. There were many types of Vimanas, Shakuni being one of them. I give just one URL: http://www.hinduwisdom.info/Vimanas.htm

Pl. donot make it German vs. Sanskrit, but German alongwith Sanskrit.

Agreed, learning foreign language not at the cost of giving up on core Indian languages. We can learn choice of our foreign language as an additional subject.

Oh please! Sanskrit is of no use to most of us. If you find it useful, by all means send your children to learn Sanskrit. But spare the rest of us, don't try to impose your choices on us.

There is a Sanskrit University in Kerala, and barely anyone cares about it! One should learn one's mother tongue, and the learning others is based on utility.

i totally agree with u , we should not go back to the dark ages ,we should learn the things which are and will be relevant today and future .we should not become cave man again.Only then we can progress .also there should be no politics on the basis of language ,the only purpose of language is to communicate and understand each others.so every language is sweet .

Are u ashamed to write ur name .? So to progress should we learn from US, UK or which of European countries ? Or from China, Japan or Korea .? If u forfeit ur identity in the name of progress and modernity then u have no relevance anywhere.

Thanks for sharing your views on my comment. Yes all the languages have their own beauties and culture. In my school days English was taught from 6th class . I learnt ABCD... in 6th - which would be joke now a days.Sanskrit was taught till 10th. but the teachers were so stereo typed , they could not create interest in it.It was good only for getting good marks. In the present scenario students feel proud for not knowing Hindi leave aside Sanskrit. It is of no proud not to know something. Learning two languages side by side makes it more effective. I learnt German and Russian togather and found it much easier that way.
