Girl lawyer airs her views
by malexxavier on Jan 16, 2014 02:08 PM

'The society discriminates against a girl from the time she is born' i swrong and rather mischeivous. Now, there are so many things for the girl child from the government in terms of free education etc etc so that the male child is mostly neglected. These words ahould have come from the mouth of male children really. Also, I donot feel that she has done anything wrong in expressing her views, however, people like Farroq abdullah can also air his views. Feminists need not jump at a man's throat when he airs his views and remain silent when a woman does so.

no newbie is taken seriously. not even men. u hav to prove urself
by mikhil surendran on Jan 13, 2014 01:59 PM

the whole issue is over hyped. right from the suspension.
1) i find no reason for her suspension from the BAR council. any one is free to make his/her opinion. and fb is a personal space.
2)that aside, about her complaints. no newbie is taken seriously at any workplace. you have to prove yourself. men and women alike. and no one has stopped her from doing so.
3)gender equality can be for real only when women can take being treated equally. as far as i have observed, many women even today wants themselves to be treated with special care even though they speak of equality. I dont think it's as much a general gender issue as much as it is made out to be. It's just a thing to be a feminist or call men to be chauvinists.
4) the whole issue seems like it comes from a person who has met other people for the first time in her life. i wonder how she was treated all her life, by ppl in her family, at colleges and elsewhere. i find no reason to feel contempt. is she complaining about being treated well?
5)were men at work the only people who took interest in arranging a marriage for her? weren't women colleagues interested in doing so. If i know anything about kerala, even female colleagues would have shown interest.
6)Confidence has to come from within. The world outside is not going to make u feel confident.

suspension of lawyer
by AmarVivek Anand on Jan 12, 2014 11:43 PM

Well, Anima Muyarath, i am simply shocked to learn this, i dont think what has happened can happen in a civilized society. firstly, we should be more resilient and must believe that actually we treat our fellow women in roughshod manner and secondly this is no way of launching disciplinary proceedings by a body like bar association which always tries to fight for others rights.. why was not a simple request from her entertained to postpone the hearing to another date when she requested for it, are we so insensitive ... it only shows that bar associations like any others have become too sensitive to constructive criticism, what if we are to challenge their decision in appeal forums, here a young lawyer says by suspending her she doesnot lose the charm of being a lawyer and she does not wish to enjoy the privilges of the bar, if bar is so careless and carefree, it would be denuded of its respect and dignity, we all are humans first and lawyers next, i can only apologise to the system, let us not dig holes in this system, if we call it a family, then she has only tried to show us the mirror in which our reflection seems to be very blurred, so we should react so strongly, well she may be a feminist, but what are we.. dehumanist or what, if she has pointed out certain weaknesses in a system, why cant be plug those instead of attacking her directly.. she is a young lawyer who deserves to be nurtured and groomed, not deserves to be sidelined like this, as if we are superiors. sorry.
