why in Indian toppers in test are made celebrity? why they makes such hue and cry over who is IAS topper etc etc? never saw such thing here in the states, and this country has produced way better scientists and entrepreneurs.. why so? anyone thought?

Because one test score does not determine who is very good in states. Teachers and professors and other peers say who is really sharp and intelligent in years of education. Not the hard working rich kids having coaching classes and opportunities and one test determine the best student. Look at IIT entrance test, one state has more students than rest of the country. It is a big problem of finding the best students for the top institutes. IITs need to fix it. This will bring down the level of those institutes in a decade.

In states, the brilliant students never TAKE COACHING CLASSES. They run coaching classes for their under performing friends.

Indians think more about their academics rather than the west, and the toppers are the inspiring ones to the next generation. That is why focus will be more on toppers.

100 Percentile
by Indian Reader on Jan 03, 2015 12:04 PM  | Hide replies

There is no such thing as a 100 Percentile. By the very definition of percentile, the top scorer can achieve 99.999999... percentile.

Indian Reader is totally correct. Even if you are first, you are still at only 99.999999999999999 percentile. Definition of percentile is the number of guys below you, so if there are 1,000,000 who took the test and you topped, your percentile is still 99.9999. You can get 100 percent but never be at 100th percentile. Percentile is a common measure of performance which measures how well you performed relative to others. Before you go around posting your stu pid, snide, snobby, sarcastic comments research a little bit.
