Terrorism
by arungopal agarwal on Aug 26, 2013 05:24 PM

Yes we live in terror, Police/judiciary could not win confidence of people, rather it has negative image. People in general are afraid of pick pocket or luggage while travelling, kidnapping-if have little money, dacoity, rape, extraction of money by govt. agencies, besides social evils.
We need SWARAJ not to be ruled by old British system.

Increase the police to population ratio....
by hawkeye on Aug 26, 2013 11:54 AM  | Hide replies

The major reason for all the lack of law and order in India is simply this : the police to population ratio is just 130 per 100000 people, well below the minimum police strength of 222 per 100000 people recommended by the UN.

Law and order is needed for healthy progress of the country in all sectors, and this is essentially provided by a good and effective police force.

All developed and progressive nations have a very good police to population ratio. France (356), Germany (298 ),Great Britain( 307 ), U.S.A (256),Spain (511),Belgium(373), Malaysia (370),Singapore(752) are examples.

Good law and order ensures a healthy society and a good background for economic development as well for obvious reasons.

If India aspires to be a developed nation, it should first increase the police to population ratio from its measly 130 at present to at least the UN recommended minimum police strength of 222.

Otherwise all these crimes and protests will keep on happening without any end at sight.

The Indian government need not get tense and worried about the costs of maintaining a 222 strong police to population ratio, as the strong economic development that comes with good law and order will more than compensate for the greater investment in the policing sector.

Rape in mumbai
by Ranjita Borthakur on Aug 25, 2013 09:21 PM

This is interesting,I address mumbai in small letters (do I need to explain my dear mumbaikars) and Rape in Caps. Biologically all males do have "Kutte ki fitrat" unfortunately I am also a male. I dont think I need to explain much. Its all about society you live in. More you are educated more you become dumb and vis-a vis more you are uneducated more you commit rape. Believe me or not the people who does this are either very rich or very poor in civil life. See there are so many proves all around.

VERY STRINGENT PUNISHED REQUIRED.
by KRISHNAMURTHY V on Aug 25, 2013 10:52 AM

While it is very important that very stringent punishment is required in cases of rape and murder of young helpless girls to defer further wrong-doing on the part of others, it is wrong on the part of the Women’s Rights movement to completely support open 'westernisation' of women, like flimsy dressing, drinking in pubs and dancing in night clubs under the influence of alcohol etc, which also tempt rightful youth into crime. Right and tough punishment and better behaviour from our sisters would surely reduce the crime to a great extent, as most of the youth will be won over to the right way. Anyhow the maniacs like those involved in Mumbai or Delhi rapes will do it anyhow, and capital punishment is the only way out here. I am saying this as a family man of over 52 years, and a father of teen-aged girl.

Developed pervert mind in a healthy body capable of inflicting injury to the honour & body of a woman can't be called "JUVENILE" in any sense.

Juvenile are used by Gangster to abuse the lax punishment. How a person can be termed Juvenile who commits such heinous crime. What a silly logic. Only death penalty can deter such incidents but we are divided society and all Government policies are taken based on vote bank so no point of right & wrong.

"WHAT IS THE SOLUTION"?????????????
by SHAKTI SANATAN on Aug 25, 2013 09:03 AM

The answer to the punishment for "such horrendous" crime is not easy, since the "whole subject matter" is very complicated and there is not one reason as to why "what happened" happened!!

Regardles, once proven in the "court" of law with the presentation of all "authentic evidences", the "GUILTY" -- whether adult or minor -- should be given capital punishment, in full view of the public, the "hanging" televised so it can have "effect" on future perpetrators [as a deterrant!!??].

[CHEMICAL] CASTRATION before being hanged should be another form of punishment, too.

Arguably, say 25 or 40 or 50 or 63 years back, did such incidences occur at the rate at which they are occuring now? Since the objective answer would be definitely "NO", then the obvious argument would be -- why "gang-rape/s" are occuring at "the rate" far more than so many decades ago?

Among "many reasons" to make the "mind" of so many "persons" becoming "PERVERTED" are:

1. Lessening of "religion","spirituality", "morality", "values", "principles", "ethos", etc.
2. The "impact" of "VULGAR" and "PERVERTED" SHOWS through various means.
3. The "promoters" of above institutions whose "sole" goal is to make money -- without "thinking" as
