Can India rule a country. and then impose its own culture and language in that country.. For example, India rule China for 200 years and then after they leave China... Now, in China people start wearing indian clothes.. start eating indian food.. start speaking hindi or tamil.. and feel ashamed of chinese language.. even after 65 years of independence... this is what brits does to india..

Much ado about nothing....
by Cedric Vaz on Apr 02, 2013 09:43 AM  | Hide replies

The 10 chosen by the author of this article are very trivial ones and hardly noticeable.
Grammatical errors are more glaring and they are the ones to be discussed. eg. He is taller than me or He is taller than I. Which one is correct?

"He is taller than I (am)" is correct. But dont write the "am" shown in brackets, cos that's obvious.

There is no word like 'desi' in english. First rdff should write English and not 'Hinglish' and then point out the mistakes

Some people have this nasty habit of banging good advice. It is the same as what happens in our police stations, where, when some 'aam aadmi' goes to file a complaint the police harasses him/her first.

Is the Queen listening?
by plain on Apr 01, 2013 04:53 PM  | Hide replies

All the others I do agree to, but I think introducing oneself as "Myself xyz" is not at all wrong; it is definitely better than the Queen's own agent saying, "The name is Bond; James Bond." That is bad english, is the Queen listening?

It is absolutely wrong to say Myself xyz. By this reasoning do you mean to say that while introducing someone else we can say Himself/Herself xyz. Myself is an emphatic or reflexive pronoun and should be used as: I myself did the project. He himself gave it to me.

Irony: Author herself made some blunders! Part-2
by abhi srivastava on Apr 01, 2013 04:33 PM  | Hide replies

Page 9:
The comparative degree works in three ways:
Correct: It should be “Comparative degree work in three ways” as the degree although seems singular it takes up a plural reference and thus cannot be followed by works (singular)
Page 10(Last):
As you become aware of these and change to the correct forms, you may start noticing other errors that need attention.
Error: Sentence incompleteness- As you become aware of these mistakes
OR
As you become aware of them (accusative) and change to the correct forms,
Another mistake in the sentence:
Same as its not wise to use “repeat again” or “return back” it would have been wiser if the author would have used
“You may notice other errors that need attention” instead of “You may start noticing other errors that need attention.
Two reason for it:
1)      The sentence is result of an action
2)      Simple future tense.

I think the person who pointed out the mistake is wrong. Degree can be used in the plural form also, example: She grew angrier by degrees.
So to point out this mistake , I think is unjustified. One can certainly say, there are three degrees of comparison.

Please carefully read the lines as I am being misinterpreted. What I mentioned is "Comparative degree" is plural thus instead of "Works"(Singular Verb) you need to use "Work"(Plural Verb)

The common mistake is to say: "Unless you will not complete the work you will not go home."
Correct: Writer must use “A common mistake” instead of “The common mistake” as the second part

For example: English is the common language in India
