Surely not just a girlfriend and a job as Chetan Bhagat suggests. It debases the aspirations of the youth badly. Particularly disturbing were his opinions that greed and stealing were Ok in today's world when he spoke over a programme over CNN IBN some time ago. If he had qualified the statements with the words that judgement should place limitations on them it would not have not been so bad. As it is, greed and dishonesty are destroying the fabric of society and to endorse it is in shoddy taste. The ideas in the book seem to strike a flippant note and make out that young people would not mind compromising on values in any situation. He must remember that his popularity could influence the thinking in young minds very strongly. I also read somewhere that his books were used in schools in parts of north India as an aid to learning the language. For school children to read about the sexual exploits of a student in his book may not lead to inprovement of language skills. No doubt he is funny and at times witty but the boks are at best a one time read. Whoever have posted the negative opinion about this work is/are shielding themselves from reality. If the same words would have been mentioned by an ordinary person no one would have reacted.
Young India wants only a job and a girlfriend ? what about girls who are 50% of young India ?
I agree with Nupur that there are young Indians who wants much more than that, who are responsible and has good values. Sometimes the young are more ethical than elders because young are still hopeful and idealistic. However it is not just politicians who are bad. Politicians are elected by us and status of politics is also a reflection on us as a country. In Indian history, the people have often valued glamour above integrity on politicians and had a short memory.

To great extent Chetan Bhagat has truly brought out the stark realities.A good lot of youth are miles away from human values with transactional and utilitarian attitudes.Blind pursuit of western world is pulling us away from our moorings.

Brought out reality?? Fact is fact - you don't need someone else to realize that!!
It is very important for young Indians to address an issue than people .Otherwise the main focus gets sidelined and this has been happening unfortunately.
