Bhagat and 3 Idiots
by vikki on Aug 25, 2012 12:26 AM  | Hide replies

Not sure if anybody observed this but 3 Idiots seem to include a joke for Bhgagat-
"Agar Bank hi join karana tha Engineering kyon ki".

About the immediate topic - I think Bhagat just wants him to be taken seriously as a writer about what even he knows the truth!

but there were couple of other truths, 1) He did MBA after engineering which might justify joining an investment bank to sell their products 2) He eventually quit his bank job and took over his passion as job

Therefore, that comment might be true in general not specifically applicable to Mr Bhagat

Don't Bother About Him So Much, Nupur!
by Anand on Aug 24, 2012 09:38 PM  | Hide replies

There's classical Music and then there's pop.

There's great cinema and then there's street Cinema.

There's literature and then there's Chetan Bhagat.

IIT-IIM does not automatically make him a litterateur or a social thinker.

He is smart: He is making his hay while the sun shines on him.

Indians are smarter: they don't take him seriously.

Neither should you, Nupur; dont burn yourself on some trite stuff.

thats not the whole story! There is something in the book that scares these literary chaps! They just cant digest the fact that thousands of common Indians love to read Bhagat's books whereas these literary geniuses have a readership of hardly 50. And 40 of those 50 are authors themselves. Its like they have formed a their own coterie and you have to conform to their norms and ideas and tastes to be called great!

However, the more sinister part is that Bhagat is an ardent Modi fan, for good reason. This book is a huge problem for Kaangress because perhaps it contains stuff that weans people away from Kaangress. That explains why the wentire establishment of main stream media, print and electronic media are targetting him all of a sudden!

Chetan Bhagat lack of Maturity !!
by R k on Aug 24, 2012 09:36 PM

Chetan needs lot of maturity and to know India and its Values. It is a very pure attempt to attract youth of India, thinking that all of them are fools and just read his book and get inspired.

English learned brought up on dose of Hollywood, MTV, Burger
by Shri Hegde on Aug 24, 2012 09:33 PM  | Hide replies

Pizza are confused. Why? because they are disconnected from the things around them, even while crossing a busy road, they are in their own world listening to western music on iPod. What can we expect from this crowd? Please go to rural areas and small towns and see that there's not much confusion.

Sorry, but how will it be any different if the language was Indian, and music, Indian pop?

How many soaps with high TRPs or Films with 100Cr collections are English?

Please, English is for us a knowledge-language and we are lucky that it is so. Please don't put the blame where it does not belong.

Is true
by airody adiga on Aug 24, 2012 09:28 PM

What Chetan says is true for most of urban youth. They are grown up in such an environment. There is always peer pressure. The trend is increasing in such a pace that, next generation of parents think there is something wrong in their son if he is not able to manage a love marriage.

Is Bhagat truly wrong?
by Haramohan Roy on Aug 24, 2012 09:24 PM

Is Bhagat truly wrong? Aren't we confused? How else, or why else, do we vote for the known corrupt politicians? Isn't cricket a true opium? Do we know right from the wrong? Really? Then why is the number of female foeticide so high in India? Why do most boys fall in line when their parents demand dowry from the girls' parents? The list is so long that it is impossible not to agree with Bhagat!
