Takes me back down memory lane, to the late sixties and my own Camp Rover. There was no GPS and of course the .303 lee Enfield rifle was much heavier. The 38th Course NDA Air Force Cadets later produced five Air Marshals ,Sumit Mukerjee, SC Mukul, Teji Randhawa,Ike Iyer and Paj Bhangu a record. We had a Course reunion after forty years at Air Force Academy Hyderabad in Nov 2010.

Why didn't Mukherji become Chief?

36 and 37 course were not upto the mark, so 38th course guys got AM ranks.

Present Air Chief, Browne is from 39th course. And KK Nohwar, also from 39th, is an AM serving under him. Several from 40 and 41 course are also AM's now. However, 36 and 37 produced no AM's

The army is doing a wonderful job and needs support from the government and the citizens. It is sad that they are not getting paid enough for the sacrifices they make. Some allowance of theirs is Rs 1 (I think it's some shaving allowance or something).........This is sadder than sad.........When they die it just becomes a subtitle in one corner....the ammount of importance media gives to a police inspector is more than that of a colonel in the army

Future military leaders
by sushil kaushal on Sep 17, 2011 10:57 AM

Future Military Leaders in India are made to go through the rigours of Hills around Pune during therr training at NDA. I salute the brave and congratulate rediffcom for taking up a story of the rare kind for people to know deep inside the psche of our future military leaders. I am in know of all this stuff 'coz I took premature retirement from IAF in 2003 and myself had gone through such rigorous schedules at Bangalore and Belgaum though not as intensive, vigorous and rigorous as the one Major Ankur led. Hats off to Ankur. Therefore when I compare a young civil servant heading some district with likes of Ankur and his mates I tend to regard the later more highly than the former despite knowing the fact that people in today's India prefer civil services more than sending their wards to NDA.
