Role of a teacher
by Manoj Gupta on May 25, 2011 11:05 AM  | Hide replies

A goal of a teacher is to always produced students that are better than himself/herself. In sports players perform better than their coaches. Eklavya was more talented than Drona.

A teacher is like a good coach, who guides the energy of the student constructively, who keeps the curiosity alive.

The debate ignited by Mr. Jairam, seems a bit misplaced and one sided.

Not only our students of IIM's but the entire student class of India and the citizens of India in whatever capacity they are ..Are good. To our bad luck our politicians time and again treating us like fools and always creating gulf between castes, students/teachers, laborers/management etc., and drawing our attention elsewhere and continuing their looting. God save us!

India is a country of 1.2 billion. What ever may be the criticism the fact is that 1.2 billion does not supply the intelligentsia that is proportion to the size 1.2 billion. What India needs is Best Planners, Best Managers, Best Executives, Best Politicians and Best Health and education systems. Take the example of political system. Unless you have best quality (even illiterate can think better and it is not to say that literate and educated make best voters) voters and best quality electoral contestants you can not get what a country needs (It is the Humans who are required to rule the country and humans to be ruled) to be happy, peaceful and prosperous not year by year achievements but at least decade by decade scale. Election after election (1950s onwards) every one comment that voters elected the best available politicians/political party to rule (TINA syndrome) and had there been a better choice would have chosen/elected the right party, the voters have been saying all along. This is conclusive proof to say that we have Talented Indians but their best is not good enough to make India corrupt free and best governed country with maximum justice to maximum (at least 95% of population) population. So let us not boast ourselves that we are exceptionally intelligent or intelligent on par with?

You missed the point entirely since even God cannot save us! What do you mean by saying that everyone except the politicians are to blame! The entire 'collective conscience' of this country is to blame including me and of course you. We are the citizens of this country and we are responsible for the mess we find ourselves in. How many times have you or I not violated the systems that are available to us in India? Have you always used a garbage can to dispose off your waste? Have you never ever broken a traffic rule? Have you never ever spoken a lie just to get that work of yours done? Have you never paid a bribe in your life just to speed up your ill planned work? If due process is followed none of this is required! You will get your government document within a prescribed time from your application - NO MATTER WHAT. The Govt. dept. CANNOT delay your application indefinitely. For everything there is a certain wait time - but we Indians are ignorant and so impatient that we initiate action in the last minute and we want everything done like yesterday. So, stop blaming and start taking responsibility for your actions. If each one of us begin to make this one small shift in our ways of thinking, the collective conscience can improve significantly. We all know that the global price of oil is shooting through the roof - yet the common man wants the price of oil to remain the same as what our forefathers paid! How is that possible? Leave poor God Alone! He has better things to do

Why only IIT and IIMs, the quality of teachers in india has always been worst in the universe. that is why india has the most illiterates. The teaching community has been made up of a mean caste of Bhramins who have had the selfish interest to keep others illiterate. IIT and IIMs are engineer and MBA factories. they are nowhere near research universities. IITs do not feature even in the top 50 research universities in the world

So IIM selection procedure is faulty? To aextent it is1where as the author says that IM selection because of interview is JUST!In fact in the Interview more students who r from IIT but have scored less percemtile percantge than other students r given more marks and eventually selected!IIM is basically for IIT grad. !A list of candidartes can prove this! Now offcourse some Students r taken from NRI Qouta but thta is mostly commefcial!

Totally false piece of information. Having been an IIM grad myself, let me clarify.

IIMs have a higher percentile cut off for IIT/NIT students compared to cut off for CAs/Bcom grads. This is true based on personal experience as well as what I know of a few friends.

Secondly, CAs & Bcoms are provided with lower cutoffs to ensure diversity of batch to include more not engineers and women. As it has been found, both non-engineers and women score lower in the quant section, where IITians excel.
