Wastefulness of Large Weddings
by Tarun Agrawal on Aug 01, 2011 12:47 AM

A wedding is designed to create a loving and lasting experience between husband and wife. The marriage setup that promotes large marriage is counterproductive in that it:
1) costs money that often depletes irreparably family finances and
2) leads to multiple ongoing influences on a marriage from those involved in the marriage ceremony that would otherwise not be there if there was not a large marriage (this was told to me by Lord Shiva). This is because you have chosen to give them importance in your married life by inviting them as guests and they are thus built into your lives spiritually, and are thus handcuffs to your liberty.

What use is food grains rotting in godowns?
At least at the time of marriages so many people get work and make money.

These politicians will expect us to donate money to their party at the time of marriages.

And why do these people not cut down on their foreign junkets and stop people like S.M Krishna from going to watch Wimbledon matches on tax payers money.

Bloody crooks.

Big Fat Indian Wedding are good in the sense

They bring the corruption money out in the market help to generate business and employment for those in line. Money is of no use if hidden under bed/sofas or put in a box and burried somewhere.

The problem starts when people do it even though they cant afford it just to show off.

Marriage Spending
by Nitesh Samant on Jul 27, 2011 09:56 PM

Wastage of food leads to food scaracity theby increasing food prices and making it uneffordable to poor people, so food wastage must stop.
As far as spending is concern let them spend if they have money let it go in system and let people get employement.
But if you cannot efford you should not do speding by taking loans as this is again a unproductive spending.
So decision is on case to case basis.

Waste of money
by Cool Mahesh on Jul 27, 2011 07:42 PM

Better to give the same money to the married couple so that it will be of use to them during their married life.
But I find this splurging on weddings more in North India. Not much in South India, but some South Indian people are also blindly trying to ape the North Indians after watching Hindi movies and TV serials.

If a filthy rich Indian is spending then it is good atleast a sizable amount of blocked money ( it cd be black money ) is getting released into the system and end up generating employment . About the food , 1. Can govt drive a policy that left out food should be donated to NGO or charity organisation which will have it channelized to slum / people on the street / orphanage etc .
2. If we can have a policy on restricting the no. of dishes in a marriage . I have heard of such cap in Pakistan .
3. More than policy , a general awareness and inclination in those who are spending that no food should go waste and they can distribute it to needy .
We are a developing country with a lot of poor people around and can not afford to waste food.
