If a filthy rich Indian is spending then it is good atleast a sizable amount of blocked money ( it cd be black money ) is getting released into the system and end up generating employment . About the food , 1. Can govt drive a policy that left out food should be donated to NGO or charity organisation which will have it channelized to slum / people on the street / orphanage etc .
2. If we can have a policy on restricting the no. of dishes in a marriage . I have heard of such cap in Pakistan .
3. More than policy , a general awareness and inclination in those who are spending that no food should go waste and they can distribute it to needy .
We are a developing country with a lot of poor people around and can not afford to waste food.

They dont have enough food and yet their population is increasing by leaps and bounds. They have families 4 times the size of a middle class person which again go on to have a 4 times bigger family. The poorest state have the fastest population growth. If someone can explain to me, I will start thinking about the poor

How does the minister plan to employ millions working in the wedding industry? The only thing I don't like about these big wedding is the wastage of food. But otherwise it employes millions of people like decoraters, musicians, designers, and many other professionals.
The minister should answer one main question, and that is HOW DOES HE PLAN TO PROVIDE RESPECTFUL AND REWARDING EMPLOYMENT TO ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO WON'T HAVE WORK IF THE WEDDING INDUSTRY EVEN SHRINKS BY HALF OF WHAT IT IS???

anything excess is bad. it puts enormous pressure on the less well heeled. in the name of employment - which is not much anyways. decorators and florals is big money for less people. however, the burden that it puts on middle class is enormous - and the idiots go for it too. why spend a few lakhs on one day that no one remembers anyways. expensive wedding is just showing off

We have 2 ways to look at it.

- I'm fine the really rich spending tons of money on the Marriages. This way some of their black money will flow into the local suppliers, labor etc
- I'm not fine with middle/lower class spending so much money on the marriages just to show off. They can instead save it for their children's future and many other things

If one really thinks, there are multiple ways in which the marriage costs can be reduced maintaining the grandeur/traditions of it.We have 2 ways to look at it.
