In a way, yes its a waste...

We have 2 ways to look at it.

- I'm fine the filthy rich spending tons of money on the Marriages. This way some of their black money will flow into the local suppliers, labor etc
- I'm not fine with middle/lower class spending so much money on the marriages just to show off. They can instead save it for their children's future and many other things

If one really thinks, there are multiple ways in which the marriage costs can be reduced maintaining the grandeur/traditions of it.

Where was our dear minister, when his collegue Mr sharad pawar was hoarding food grain worth crores. Not only he allowed food grain worth Rs 17000 crore to rot in godowns, but also made a mockery of Indian people by refusing to abide by the verdict of apex court to distribute the food for free.. I am also not in favor of this big marriage extravaganza, but don't we have other important issues at hand. Mr minister, charity begins at home, so before coming to ours, please clear your own

Not Really
by shalini prasad on Jul 26, 2011 09:06 PM  | Hide replies

One can call it a show off, but it's not really a waste of money. Consider the amount of people employed in such a business. It is one of the biggest business in India at all levels(not just for the super rich). There are so many people who otherwise would not have a employment. How many more people we want to struggle for jobs when the current population isn't able to get decent enough jobs?

If we start considering every such thing a waste of money, how is the government planning to put that money into circulation. I think the minister should be careful or else his plan may backfire. We don't live in a socialist country. Those who can afford should not feel guilty to spend.

Dear sir/madam,
I dont think you have seen people eating food from waste bins. Government is elected by us and we shud be blamed, period. As for weddings, people just overload their plates and just throw it. Who's to blame? I have seen even villagers doing the same, just bcos they have an enmity with someone in the hall or even educated crap filling their plates and eat only just

This is one of the fewest ways the black money could be spent. For this lot of labourers work, money is spent on buying wedding material, food etc..and every penny stays within the country.. and also helpful for the local businesses.. Tell me why its a waste now..

I support big fat Indian weddings!
by Tom Dick on Jul 26, 2011 07:35 PM

The reason to support such expensive wedding is because that way the rich man's money will move into the hands of the locals who supply various things. Caters, decoraters, car rentals, hotel staff all get a piece of the big chunk of money these rich people spend. Otherwise the money will not circulate but remain in the coffers of the rich. In any case it is not our money! These people are not going to give it us either. So those who supply service can take some money.

Of course they did, but I don't believe in arranged and or love marriages. I like to live my life, the way I feel and be happy. Why should I be like all miserable and unhappily married men?

BIG FAT INDIAN MARRIAGE.
by ashwani sharma on Jul 26, 2011 05:16 PM

Indian traditional marriages cannot be perform without much hype.dhol dhamaka, tambu shambu, daru varu, naach gaana, khana shana, gifta shifta, dahej vahej and bari shari, cara vara--- cannot be possible without spending lot of money. infact people loves to do all this, this can only be stopped by imposing ban on traditional money spending marriages.
