All fingers are of not and can't be EQUAL for a homogeneous society. Political exploitation on name of religions, castes, gender, regionsl sentiments have led to this situation. It is not caste system to be pointed at. It is the exploitation of politicians in not giving equal opportunities and social justice by oppression with no inclusive growth. Fight for equal opportunities and question for social justice no matter which caste or religion you belong to.

Caste based census will lead to increase in population
by Amit P on May 19, 2010 10:03 AM  | Hide replies

After the caste based census if the govt's policies regarding reservation are based on the population of every caste (higher population higher quota) it will be discouraging for those castes who believe in having small families. This will further lead to increase in population

That can be addressed through Population control with government whip. Thats not a problem. If entertaining religion, can't it also lead to population increase?.

Nothing...
by p sadfd on May 19, 2010 09:52 AM

Now there is nothing to do...This should have been stopped when V.P. Singh first initialized the reservation for SC/ST long back... Once the fire starts in one direction, no one can stop it...Since then only these reservations are creating life miserable for general public. Every one is trying to get a certificate of one or the other kind and get the benefit out of it. SC/ST quota, Womens quota, Muslims quota, managment quota....every kind of quota is there in INDIA. One day will be there, that General person will say "I have 12% quota"...sh** all over...

shuld be true census
by Sameer Bharat on May 19, 2010 09:49 AM

I think cast based census will tell whether the so called minority is in minority anymore. On the basis of census results, the minority rights should be revoked now on muslims.

I dont think caste based census is wrong.

I dont think caste based census is wrong. It identifies a set of people lagging behind still and helps us to identify them. How come reservations should exist and no caste based sensus?

in fact reservation should be given to those people below the pooverty line. it is rediculous to give reservation for those who are already eligible.

my dear friend, why cant u understand that indians are very sensitive wen it comes to the caste and religion etc. already so many organisations like vhp, simmi, bajrang, ram sena etc are doing the drama for their profit. this census will only add the fuel to the fire and nothing elese.
why the hell our goverment want to record the status of the people according to their caste. cant it be done according to the financial condition of them. the politicans are dividing the country. the caste feeling will be more strong after the census and u know we are heading towards a very modern time now and this census will be a step backward. rather they should try to identify the people below the pooverty line and ban all of the reservation based on castism

Classless society

If the Govt of India has some sanity left, stop this exercise of identifying people by caste and create a classless society.

No initiative had been taken by rediff to protest against caste based "honour killings" other than news reports. Why rediff should b concerned about taking peoples opinion on caste based census issue alone? Mere news reports on Honour killings is not sufficient. Medias should join to -gether for a mass campaign against "honour killings"

Law is there to punish honour killings. People kill on caste, religion, region, greediness and what not. If male is killing female through domination or exploitation, are you asking judiciary to punish for killing or trying to erase out total male population to assure safety of females?.

My view of caste..
by Sundar on May 19, 2010 08:53 AM  | Hide replies

Caste was useful a decade back. Now, it has be purely based on income, nothing else. I was from most backward class and benefited from govt scholarship, and I've NOT applied community certificate for my kids.

I'm not backward in terms of financial status, and let some one be benefited from the noble cause.

My request is still need to identify a better mechanism to utilize the census data. Certainly against the caste based census as it will be used only in vote bank aspect.
