This is because Indian scientist were not that kind of looking for propaganda. For example, Jagadish Chandra Bose (whose invention was stolen by Marcony and later Marcony won Nobel for it) and Satyen Bose (who discovered Boson particle and Einstein himself recommended Bose for Nobel. But Nobel committee did not listen because he was an Indian. Leter Nobel Committee agreed to its mistake).
I don't know why Rabindranath Tagore's name is not at all mentioned here! May be you write and learn history in a different way! Hats off (sarcastic) to Rediff youn left no words for us!

Here we can see how dedication American girl for their husband to make best. Our Indian girl should learn from that. This is call women power not shouting in the road and parliment that give power to the woman.Actuly woman has great power but intelegent know to use it but other women want to be like Mayabati or Jaylalita who want only money or powerbut no dedication.
An Indian getting a Nobel is amazing. Its good also to showcase what they did and how they did but the point is they have left the country for thier personal aspiration. Instead showcase the mights of Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad or people who have stayed back in the country and tried to correct the system and still have given best to their own country. Every year the country produces great IIT graduates for which the tax payers funds are used but then the trend says that they settle abroad.
In all I will say the person who has not helped its own country is useless irrespective of his achievements.

you talk about the 'great IIT graduates', I can't see any 'great IIT graduates' getting any Nobel prize. Instead, all the Nobel laureates are from all the 'non-great' universities. So maybe the IITs don't really deserve all the importance they get, all the non-IIT universities are greater. I have definitely seen more non-IITians achieve a lot more in their careers on their own abilities, instead of with help from their 'friends' as compared to the IITians, gain 'real education', instead of just literacy, and also turn out to be much better human being...something to think about....

I think its just bcoz he hasnt studied outside INDIA and served only in INDIA.. what a pity..Even after getting an Independence since 1947, these rediff authors still lick those white a**
We Indians are the biggest cheater in the world. Har Gobind Khurana was denied not only job but even a fellowship in one of the institutes as well, and I feel that we do not have any moral or ethical rights to celebrate their achievements. Same is in case of Slumdog, why the f**k we did celebrate it as why did we need a foreign director with foreign crew to make a film on India and won the Oscars. I do appreciate Gulzar Saab and A. R Rehman for that though.

The very fact that meritorious students leave the shores of India and are able to achieve international recognition is in itself a pointer to the pathetic conditions that prevail in our country. Let us not doubt a couple of things: 1. It is human nature to look back to one's place of birth. But that is a personal emotion stored in the cabinet of memories, both good and bad. Personal bondages provide good memories while public conditions provide sad memories. 2. Looking back, each achiever does acknowledge that if he /she stayed back in this country the achievement would not have been possible. 3. It is alright for his / her relatives to celebrate the achievement, but the nation has no right to own the achiever who had been cast away by the very system and which he shunned. 4. The truth of the matteer is; we Indians in this nation are like the little kids that imagine to be spiderman and superman. We have yet to grow up and face reality.
When we can acknowledge Norah Jones as half Indian, when we can allow American Idol contestant - Sanjaya, because of their dubious Indian origins- there should be no doubt about these great Nobel laureates. Besides we are a nation lacking in genuine heroes (esp for our size) and considering the low appreciation we have for academic achievements - this is the least we can do. It is somewhat similar to our achievement in sports. We have a total of 20 medals, so why do we care where we get olympic medals. I was proud to see an Indian gymnast in the US team of 2004.
