ABC XYZ
What a ridiculous list?
by ABC XYZ on Jan 31, 2011 12:29 AM

This is such an incomplete list. Who came up with this? A better list is in Wikipedia. Here some other prominents ones missed here:
JC Bose (Bose-Einstein Statistics), Satyendranath Bose (Boson particles name after him), Homie Bhaba (father of India's nuclear program), APJ Abdul Kalam (Missile man of India), Meghnad Saha (astrophysics - thermal ionization equation), PC Mahalanobis (prominent Statistician, Mahalonobis Distance and pioneer in Antrhopometry, founder of ISI), Jayant Narlikar (Astrophysics - Hoyle - Narlikar Theory), Ramanujan (prominent self taught mathemetician, Ramanujan's Constant), Har Gobind Khurana (Noble laureate, pioneer in DNA analysis), Vikram Sarabhai (Father of Indian Space programme), Birbal Sahni (prominent Indian paleobotanist), CR Rao (Statistician - Rao Balckwell theorem), Mani Lal Bhowmick (Physicist - Lasik Surgery), Salim Ali (prominent Orintologist), Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (Nobel laureate in physics), and the list goes on.

by HIMADREE BURAGOHAIN on Apr 02, 2010 04:26 PM

As we all know Kiran Bedi is one of the foremost lady IPS officer in the country. She is a living example for the young girls who are stiving for such a challenging career. Her indomitable courage to face all obstacles and work towards the betterment of the humanity is a quality to be sought after. She represented the United Nations. Her ability and skills are to be admired. During the era when the womenfolk are looked down she exemplifies a legend for the younger generation to sought and take tougher tasks so as to fight corruption and poverty that has eaten the very core of India. We all hope that Ms.Bedi will undertake such tasks for the welfare of the common masses and the underpriviledged intelligent students of our country.

RAKESH YASHROY
Kiran Bedi -- a brilliant practical idealist woMAN
by RAKESH YASHROY on Mar 17, 2010 04:37 AM  | Hide replies

I happened to be a contemporary student in Science (Biophysics) during years 1968-70 at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Then Kiran (Peshawaria) was India No.2 seeded star in tennis. First-class-first of the Univ. and very concerned studuent. She pleaded for special health supplements for player-students to the then Students' Council, of which I happened to be Secretary. I have since then enjoyed watching her outstanding and selfless service to Indian people as an extra-ordinary Police senior officer and then a media activist re-uniting broken families. She is a real Karam Yogi and I wish her best. Dr. Rakesh Chander.

In the mid eighties she joined Mizoram police, got her daughter in a reputed medical college in Delhi thru the quota reserved for students from North East. After her purpose was served she simply left Mizoram. She didn't get any punishment because of her high profile nature.
When singing paens about this lady, this is one simple episode of her scheming nature.
She and TN Seshan are two sarkari babus who had used the midia to suit them best.

Hi Saibaba,
Well in het 6 decades of life and nearly 4 decades of career, all we have is this SINGLE incident? I guess we shud rather focus on the bigger picture...
Even this quota issue in itself is not in anyways proves her to be taking/giving any bribe etc....intead it is more like a procedural issue...whether she was allowed as per the rules or not....why blow it out of proportion?

One does not need to eat the whole of the rice to test whether it is cooked or not. It is instances like these that show the true nature of persons who take undue benefit of the system, use the media to create a hype and bask in glory.
Show us one single example of what Kiran Bedi did during her career except scheming and trying to grab the spotlight?

Sir M Vishweshwariah not only built dams in India but around the world. He is the architect on the famous Victoria dam in England where he demanded the British to name it as ‘Indian Dam’. Since the British did not approve it, he carved his name on a small stone on the dam and placed it. In case anyone tries pulling out that stone, the whole dam will collapse.
Also while he was the diwan of Mysore, abolished the rule that only British set on chairs and Indians sit on floor in the royal Mysore Court.
I guess he was off the lime light because he opposed Gandhi in his Charaka movement and coined the slogan ‘Industrialize or Perish’.
He did make Mysore as the modal state in his era with credentials like first radio station in Asia, first city to be electrified in India, first hydro-electric power station in Asia, first Iron and Steel plant in India and the list goes-on.
I agree that he deserved a mention in this list.

best students of india

I am really at a loss to understand how kiran could be called a great student. She was probably a great officer, but that has little relevance to academics. The person who has written the article should read about Ramanujam(Robert Kenigel's biography would be good beginning) to understand what a truly great student means. The whole article smacks of flattery.
