Does India have research which blends for example chemistry, material science and engineering in industry?
I doubt it.
Take a simple car spark plug which goes in the engines. Has to withstand high heat in the chamber as well as hundreds/thousands of sparks per minute... The manufacturing process includes metals, ceramics and ultimately even treatment with cyanides. It is easy to import machines or technology from Bosch or Champion to set up a plant to manufacture spark plugs - but can Indian industry really design one from scratch to compete with world brands and make it commercially viable?
I just doubt it. I don't think any of the leading engineering companies including Tata or L&T do this kind of research and certainly not Reliance. As for the IITs research...
present indian students are busy in watching pornsites and bollywood hot songs through out their life, it is impossible to win a nobel prize, those days are over, now all for dedicated students of europe, america and even africa, not india LOL

Still Indians and Chinese people are front runner for highfy scientific research across the world even over westener
No matter what - even from MIT/Carnegie Mellon etc a student doing a Bachelor's degree program just lacks the knowledge and more importantly the time needed to do the research for getting a Nobel. Then after graduating with Bachelors one does not get a job in research centers.
It is the PhD and Post Doc students who indulge in research. They have the time to do research and not the Bachelors kids running around giving exams and doing fairly basic labs.
You need strong PhD programs to churn out Nobel winners. IIT's are not designed for that. They also need faculty i.e professors interested in research to guide doctoral and post doc students. Are the IIT faculty capable and/or interested in that?
This JEE discussion for Nobel is totally irrelevant.

it is a dream you never know when one kid will achieve that dream his idea is not that any or all student will opt for reseach to get nobel price he is idea is that some one might be interested in research after iit and MIGHT get nobel it is possible and achieable and most imp it is deam from great educator. I hope this dream will come true in near future.

I mean a discussion on GATE or the PhD program in IITs would be more apt.

absolutely not. I beg to differ. iit jee is a bachelor's degree correct just like any other bachelor's degreee and it can be a stepping stone for research just as any other bachelor's degree. why is there a notion that you can not pursue research after you have done your bachelors in engg or medicine? this is not in any way irrelevant!

You can definitely pursue your research AFTER Bachelors - point being if there are facilities for doing that. I am not sure the IITs have those facilities or the professors motivated for the gruelling work in research.
The entry reqt for Bachelors is irrelevant for Masters and PhD since there is a different qualifying for that - and the thesis work has NOTHING to do with exams. Research is not passing exams.

Anybody is here from Carnegie Mellon Univ. (CMU), Pittsburgh, USA... Just wanted to know our past or present students. I was in batch 2000 -2002 (Masters degree in Finance and Information Systems).

This is a noble wish of a Teacher, a Guru. He has a wish that some day some student(might be someone of him) will win the Nobel prize.Whats wrong in this..He is doing what he can do. Its amazing work. But there are many FRASTOOS who has no work but to talk negative and irrilavent inspite of keeping mouth shut and listen..to understand.

Okay you be positive and encourage nonsense like IIT JEE will get you Nobels. It is just a exam and has nothing NOTHING to do with research. Noble dreams of noble teachers notwithstanding....
coaching centres mafia is really a serious problem in our country...any education system or competitive exam should be designed so that any hard working student should be able to easily take that exam without attending a coaching centre....coaching centres should be made irrelevent....if they exist they should be to help some students who are backward in education.....now a days a competitive exam is prepared in such a way that he will be able to take that only with the help of coaching centres...
University ranking does not translate into Nobel prize.
university of Taiwan & Univ of Hong Kong have 6 lac people applying for 2000 seats.
IITs I'm sure has more seats and lesser applicants than tha above univs. I mean they hold a world record.
Research is the key to winning a Nobel prize! When was the last time did someone hear an Indian Entity is working on say new thing (Fuel Cell technology) and not an existing (say) wireless technology....Bluetooth enhancement.
Well if Indian Entities were doing that, then why does IEEE magazine does not say anything about it.
But the magazine talks about some new technology being developed in Croatia???

very true...people join just with the motive to earn fat salaries...otherwise IITs could have produced few Nobels...
