Dear Anand Bhai, i like most others in your batch wanted to crack IIT, but we were misled in belief that our Boards course material was upto date and we had the best faculty to guide us in school and colleges.. I found it very difficult to understand IIT problems, for i was not thinking out of the box.. its good to see you helping these young guns.. i wish i had a faculty like you.. now i a faculty of Management, but the spirit of IIT is always in me.. the spirit to learn, think out of the box.. well done.. Anand.. God Bless!!

brother.. you need money to run family and feed 30 people for months.. its not ease.. when most of the time you have you give to your passion free of cost
How many of your students after leaving IIT went for higher studies, how many joined IAS,IPS,Banks, and how many went in for reasearch I bet most of them would have joined civil service. How do you motivate them to win Nobel prize?
For an Indian to receive a Nobel prize by doing research in India, there is still a long way to go.
Scientists doing research is USA get federal funding from the govt. to do research on latest fields like particle physics, biotechnology, genetics, nanotechnology etc. etc.
There is no doubt that Indians do have the mental capability. The point is that until & unless govt funds such expensive projects and pays high salaries to the extra brilliant minds, they are not going to stay in India and do the research. Brain drain is going to happen. There are many extraordinary inventions done by Indians in US, like for eg., recently a US co. lead by an Indian created a technology to make electricity out of sand! Another research team in US lead by an Indian found out a radical way to create hydrogen out of ammonia borane for powering vehicles. There are many such examples.
All the major inventions in the past 300-400 yrs have been done mostly by European countries, of course since India was a british colony it didnt have to chance to rise against them. Right from the discovery that the earth revolves around the sun, the printing press, knowledge of elements, atoms, nuclear physics etc. most of the research has been done in the West.
The point I want to make is that our politicians should recognize the importance fundamental research has in building a great nation, have a vision and fund such projects.

We not only need to put the necessary infrastructure in place, we do have IITs and IISc's but the PhD students there get a stipend of Rs. 10000-40000 per month which is peanuts compared to the quality of research they may be doing. Naturally the brilliant ones try getting admission in the Ivy Leagues and other Western colleges and they get a chance to showcase their talent and earn a fortune too.
Its only now after the Indian economy opened up after 1990s that the middle classes are seeing opulence.... considering that the progress made in 20 yrs is not at all bad. Hoping that an Indian gets a major scientific invention to our credit in the near future!

Dr. you are absolutely wright and hitting the eye of the problem. In india people have not seen money and prosperity hence they are getting attacted to west. In India there are many students who want to do PhD's and postdocs but they are constrained due to only and only money.

Moreover, we also need hundreds of teachers like Mr. Anand Kumar who can motivate and lead research students in the right direction to be a contender for a Nobel prize.
Hi Anand Kumar, Winning Nobel there is serious other factors are considered there. So why to make this as reference to students. Even Mahatma M.K. Gandhi did not get nobel price. So the target shall be like Indian legends such as Sir CV Raman, Megnad Saha, Satyendra Nath Bose and peers like them. So the better reference/inspiration could be making personalities like these peers and not the Nobel price, because this price sometimes eludes the deserving scientists across the world.
If one aspires to win nobel he/she must have the passion and fire for excelling in that field. We've read storeis of scientists who worked with extraordinary zeal and dedication to solve myriad problems faced by mankind. Such passion is always lacking among Indian students, IITians included. Most of the IITians get to the institute just for the brand value and to increase their saleability, their interest in engineering is a suspect. They go to coaching classes , crack thousands of problems and finally make to IITs. Such a strenous coaching definitely leaves them with little interest in engineering. That's why most after doing Bachelor's opt for non-engg profession. Nobel for IITians will remain a dream.
