Your hard work is paid off. Also I strongly condemn your parents decision of having 4 children when they cannot afford to make daily wage. There should be a lesson for entire country as well about family planning and also your hard work vision and still humanity left in the country to help.

Don't give so much hype of IIT. It is just one of the premium college in India. Other than conducting tough entrace exam- they have not done anything great in last 50 yrs as far as out put in engineering, research, innovation or scientific breakthrough is concerned. Tough entrance exam also only because of high population & not quality. Obsession is more in north India as most unproductive population of India live there with no alterante opportunity. In entire AP only 15,000 students appeared for JEE still almost 30% of 2010 batch students are from AP. IIT doesn't appear even in top 100 universities in world. Even as per 2010 ranking no IIT apperaed in top 100. All top universities in US/Europe/UK/china/korea/singapore are much better & more productive than IIT. If few students do better after going to US, It is because of better system of US. That is done by good students from other institute of India also. Stop this overhyping of IIT. If some one doing really great during engineering, he should be appreactited. Just getting admission in engg college doesn't need so much of hype & media attention. This happens in india only & thats why we are not even in top 50 as far as innoovation is concerned.
Congratulations to Abhishek & Thanks to his teacher Mr. Bansal for giving good suggestions to students. Really good job by Abhishek & good hard work he did. Its not easy to achieve the success without the facilities but Abhishek proved himself and did good job. Of course he get selected because of reservation but still a good work he did. Sure he will be an inspiration to others in future.
It would be better if rediff publish his marks here subject wise like in Maths, Physics, & Shemistry, How much he secured to get selected in IIT. It doesn’t matter if the marks are less or more but surely it will help other candidates to understand the grading system and improve the confidence of future candidates.

Agree. Truer than the phonies and false heroes such Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh, T N Seshan et al, who have merely learnt to be polite and soft-spoken (a trait that is often mistaken for humility) in spite of academic and career brilliance, thus laying claim to hero-giri and rolemodel-giri. But genuine heroes surface from time to time unbidden indeed.

TN Sheshan - Soft spoken? Man you must be kidding. He will cut you in to pieces alive just by talk!! But each of those individuals you have mentioned have achieved something great for India. Don't be too small minded please

Hope Mayawati will lick his boots, and also hope all the SCs, STs, BCs and other assorted parasites and casteist-vampire who live off the system without ever improving themselves academically, intellectually, will take a leaf out of this family's life.

Will be great if Arun Shourie and such types congratulate this boy and write tributes in his honour. If true merit is given full rein, India can easily overtake China indeed.

Now, where do caste, merit, rolemodels, cricket, etc, fit in in this success story? I don't understand!

Read slowly, carefully; you will then easily be able to read between the lines. The underlying story is, merit will triumph, no matter what, and it does not need crutches like caste-based reservations, etc. It's time the meritorious but economically weak should get all the assistance from the state, irrespective of caste. And the parasites (people with no merit, rich but belonging to so-called weaker sections of society) should stop misusing reservations because such people degrade and devalue institutions like IITs, IIMs, ISBs, REC, etc, which belong to people such as Abhishek Bhartiya.
Congrats to Abhishek who came from a very poor background and was able to crack IIT. The reservation helped him fulfil his dreams. Infact, reservation should be there to help such indigent from SC/ST fulfil their dreams. Unfortunately, there are SC/ST doctors/Engineers and other well to do people who can affort the best facilities and education for their children and corner these quotas thereby blocking the chances of the poor.
