Carrying pepper spray alone will not help. Most of us dump things in our bags and we don't realize the need of usage at right time. So keep it handy and use it at the right time..

Correct. Beyond this one need to be careful always, day or night. Nowadays, we see many girls and women, speak on the mobile phone while walking and they do not even realize where they are.

MR.OPINIONATED MAN, IT IS TRUE THAT DECENT GALS SHOULD BE BACK AFTER 8 PM,NO BUSINESS TO BE OUTSIDE WITHOUT YOUR HUSBAND/FAMILY AFTER IT GETS DARK.It is not a good sign if the gal stays out late,he character is is question then. Why you speak of guys, and compare ??? they don't get molested or raped.THE RULES ARE DIFFERENT FOR BOTH SEXES. Now stop being a women-rights-protector when you can't protect them from molestation & rape ?

Then keep all your womenfolks at home only and never give them any freedom to work. Understand, it is not about decent man or women, everyone needs safety and should take precaution. Dont corrupt this with your decency thoughts.
Focus less on beauty more on strength. Do workouts every day like pushups, running etc, so that you can atleast fight and run when someone tries to assault you.
For the unfortunate girl in Delhi, I would hold the call center company COMPLETELY responsible and make it usre that they are heavily monetarily punished...women working late hours is nothing new except for the larger numbers...hotels have for decades have had women working late hours BUT always the hotels have dropped women off at their doorstep...and the regimen is followed to the T...

You are right Mr Ravi Krishnan, women working night shifts is not a new phenomenon. Women employed with railways, VSNL, BSNL, MTNL (erstwhile P&T), nurses, airline staff (not just airhosteses) have all worked in night shifts. Many may do not know, but IAS officers/other officers with government and bank Managers also travel extensively on work and there are plenty of women among them. However, their safety had never been an issue till recently because, the employers see to it that they are safe. If any one can see a pattern, mostly it is call centre employees who have been targetted. Why is that? can any one explain?
1) Seek help of male friend, relative, colleague to pick you up at airport & drop you back home. since it is not everyday, you reach at 2:00 AM, most chivalrous men would oblige
2) Avoid wearing provocative/revealing clothes while travelling late at night to avoid any needless attention grabbing
3)Avoid boarding taxi alone after a late night drinking binge, your diminished self awareness would apparently invite undesirable trouble
4) Ipod/iphone might not just distract your attention, but invite attention of thieves, keen to grab the latest gadget in the market. suggest keep a low profile atleast once in a while.
Though alone travelling does not apply only to women it applies to all, but recently with one sided huge law protection given to women and Europeon type build up has boosted womens dare to remain in lessor clothes(not acceptable to our socieity)drinking habits and show of modernity. Women should take care of their own for such situations.

Those one-sided laws you talk about get made because of one-sided people like you. And even those men who are harmless face the brunt of those laws. Do us all a favour. Take a one-sided ticket to the Middle East, and stay there.
Its not only women, anyone travelling alone at night is at a risk. With women, the danger is exponentially higher but the danger of robbery is universal. I had a similar experience while travelling along back from airport late at night. Providentially, I put my foot down and refused to allow the driver to take his "friend" as an extra passenger
